Name: Jennie B on May 23, 2006Comments: Agree that the pool is quite handily located, should not be relocated and levelled to the ground. However, it *does* need some TLC from the council and revamping from the 80s hive that it currently is. I don't *actually* disagree with unisex changing rooms, however, understand people's disgruntlement toward them.Flag

Name: Sonia Lester on May 29, 2006Comments: I would be very unhappy and very cross if cowley pool is closed. There are few leisure facilities in East Oxford outside of Blackbird Leys and the tax payer of this city should not lose what small amount we have.Flag

Name: Oliver Parsons-Baker on May 29, 2006Comments: I think it would be a disgrace to close a facility. It should be upgraded like Ferry Sports Centre was to provide an even better service to the residents. I do not want to travel to Blackbird leys, an area I dont know, to swim. We all pay our council tax and thats where it should be spent, in providing services to local people in local areas.Flag

Name: Lee Williams on Jun 8, 2006Comments: Not living in the area this is no longer a facility I use, but having grown up in Temple Cowley, I feel that the demolition of the swimming pool and moving it to BBL is atrocious. Apart from the fact the pool belongs in Temple Cowley, easily accessible by bus or car from throughout, BBL, Oxford/Cowley Rd, Horsepath and even Rosehill, the proposed site to relocate to is ridiculous. Unless things have changed recently, apart from the few decent folk, BBL is not the nicest of places to visit. And vandalism of the facilities would not just be likelihood but a certainty. Possible patrons to the pool would also be put off from using the facilities due to the location.Flag

Name: Jo Renshaw on Jun 12, 2006Comments: The swimming pool is the best thing about this area. Because it is not chlorinated, it is the only pool where myself and my children (who suffer from eczema) can swim. I would be furious if it closed.Flag

Name: Laura Collins on Jun 25, 2006Comments: I use Temple Cowley Pooles 3 times a week - it's friendly, convenient and a decent size. If this facility was lost to me, I don't think I'd use another one in Oxford - Barton, Blackbird Lees and Marston Ferry being too far away, inconvenient and not part of my local community. And as for the idea of cubicle changing - I've seen it in Newbury and it doesn't work, it's isolating and cramped. Please leave the single sex changing areas alone!!!!Flag

Name: Paul Heard on Jul 20, 2006Comments: Keep it as it is! We are having an influx of people moving into the area (old school site) and there are two Brookes halls of residence within 5 mins walk of the pool. To move the pool would be a great loss to the community!!!Flag

Name: Elwira Lubos on Jul 22, 2006Comments: Please keep the pool open. I have been going there for only 4 months, and since I have used it regularily. I think pool and leisure facilities are realy needed in that area. The pool is heaving with people in the afternoons, and weekends; many of them young people who would probably have no other alternatives for spending their time in a structured and positive way. I think changing facilities are just fine. Has this idea been given a public consultation I think it should!Flag

Name: Dan Paskins on Jul 23, 2006Comments: No plans for closing Temple Cowley Pool have been suggested to councillors (who are the ones who would make this sort of decision). I would totally oppose any proposal to close Temple Cowley Pool - we need improved leisure facilities in the Cowley area. Dan Paskins City councillor, Lye Valley wardFlag

Name: Mary Chong on Jul 28, 2006Comments: This area is a prime location for the pool. People can swim, enjoy a pubmeal afterwards, visit the library, see the doctor, have a walk at Florence Park and shop at the nearby outlets all in a day. Why move it to somewhere isolated, where there's less incentive to goFlag

Name: Jenny Troyano on Aug 12, 2006Comments: Why provide my children with free swimming if you are going to close our local pool My sons have throughly enjoyed attending the holiday swimming programme and in particular the snorkelling course. As a family we have enjoyed coming to Temple Cowley, using the learner pool, main pool and the gym. It is a real shame that there is no creche provision as there are plenty of us mums who would love to use the gym during the daytime!Flag

Name: Heather Richardson on Aug 20, 2006Comments: Why is a council who is so keen to "address the lack of facilities for young people" in Temple Cowley by creating a skate park, also so keen to take away a facility that is used by many of all ages Furthermore, if more land in this area is sold off for housing development what are this influx of people supposed to do nearby - take up skateboarding!!!Flag

Name: David Jackson on Aug 20, 2006Comments: The council should ensure that the Cowley Pool stays open so that adults (e.g. over 18s) can have something to do. The plans for the the new facilities in the Cowley Marsh park cater for up to 18, what about the rest of us!Flag

Name: Clare Woodcock on Aug 21, 2006Comments: Isn't the Council supposed to be encouraging us to take more exercise Doesn't it want fewer of us to use our cars If Temple Cowley Pools close, people will either stop swimming altogether or drive to other pools. And if the land is to be sold, what happens to Temple Cowley Library next door East Oxford has few enough facilities as it is. The vast majority of us don't want and don't need a fifty metre Olympic size pool which we have to drive or get the bus to. We want to be able to walk to our local pool to do a bit of swimming. Keep this vital community facility open!Flag
