Don’t forget to come to the Protest at Council Scrutiny Committee.
WEDNESDAY 10th February 5pm at the TOWN HALL, ST ALDATE’s, OXFORD
Despite Bob Timbs assuring the Oxford Mail this was a done deal, it isn’t. The Council’s Executive Board has decided to spend £200,000 on a feasibility study to explore the possibility of relocating pools to Blackbird Leys. If their financial partner doesn’t come off that’s £200,000 that could be put towards rebuilding Temple Cowley and Blackbird Leys Pools.
3 members of Scrutiny Committee have called this decision in. So Wednesday is a chance to let the Committee know strength of feeling on the issue. Please come with banners, placards etc and make your views known.
If you can’t attend, please email Scrutiny Committee members to let them know your thoughts.

I’d like to urge you all to reconsider your decision to close Temple Cowley Pools and replace it with a new facility in Blackbird Leys.
There are a number of compelling reasons why a swimming pool and gym facility should remain in the Cowley area:
Cowley and the East Oxford Area is the most densely populated district in Oxford, with a high proportion of disadvantaged people – low wages, unemployed, disabled, and so on. Many of these people, frequent users of the pool and gym, will not make the move to Blackbird Leys. There are also a number of local schools who all make use of this facility. Closing it will mean much longer journey times and additional transport costs. The additional travel time (as well as transport costs), will severely disrupt their teaching day – for example, at Our Lady School the children come across for swimming at 8.30 before school starts – they would no longer be able to do this if they had to travel to Blackbird Leys....
