Access to the RSH nursery is paramount to ensure happy, balanced children, happy parents and a happy NHS workforce.Flag

Name: Lucie Lleshi on Jul 11, 2006Comments: It's hard being a working parent but the RSH Taplins nursery makes it easier and doable. Expecting over 40 families to treck to the other side of Southampton to a less flexible facility is unacceptable and it will disrupt the children, who are settled and happy and developing well. It is also highly unfair on the staff, who do a fantasic job. Less than 4 months notice has been given which shows complete lack of respect and thought for all concerned. This closure will effectively be taking my son's second home from him and taking him away from the nursery staff he's grown up with and loves like family. It will also potentially scupper my career as I'll loose the flexibilty that the RSH nursery allows for. I'll be unable to work flexible hours and go on external training courses because of the inconvenience of getting the Western site. I know I am not alone with these issues. Brintons House may not be a suitable long term venue, but there is no doubt in my mind that a nursery facility on or near the RSH site is very much needed and I hope this petition proves this!!Flag

Name: Diane Hulme on Jul 11, 2006Comments: Taplins is a warm and caring place which benefits the children of many members staff, what a shame it would be to lose this valuable nursery which enables staff to return to work, traipsing half way across town to drop off and pick up children in the rush hour is a added stress which parents could do without before starting work.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jul 11, 2006Comments: Please re-consider this closure. Local Trusts showed actual investment in staff (rather than just the lip service paid to obtain certification) when they built Trust Taplins at the Western. Staff will loose their faith in the local NHS as an 'employer of choice' if this closure goes ahead on a permanent basis. The WCH is too far from the RSH to offer a permanent alternative for staff. I had been told in the past that the long-term plan for the RSH nursery was refurbishment or a re-build. Why is this no longer the strategy PLEASE do not be short-sighted about this. There are few perks to attract competent staff into the NHS and competition for workforce will become more intense as we enter a new era of plurality. SUHT and SCPCT need to prove that they really do value their staff and that 'consultation' is not just an empty gesture.Flag
