The Chico Fire Department is currently UNDER BUDGET, in both overtime, salary and benefits. They are under the budget that Council and Manager set for them. Yet, the Chico City Council and City Manager Dave Burkland cut $95,000 from the Chico fire budget. Why? I asked Dave Burkland that question at the Finance Committee meeting last week. He didn't have a good answer.

Tell the City Manager and City Council that we, the citizens of Chico, demand that they cut ALL public salaries by the same percentage when we must make up a budget deficit. Tell the Chico City Council that we should NOT spend $74,000 on 5 paintings for City Hall when we need only $95,000 to keep Station 5 open and the public safer.

Tell the Chico City Council that we demand that our tax dollars go to Public Safety before higher salaries for any public employee. We need to make sure our public employees are focused on our greater good and safety. There are many other wasteful expenditures that we should cut before we allow them to close a fire station and cut off a vital public saftey service to thousands of citizens.

Did you know that a fire doubles in size every 5 minutes?  Every minute counts when it comes to response times, and now too many citizens are without a fire station close to them.

We pay for those basic services with our tax dollars. Please sign this petition and share it with your friends who live in Chico if you want the City of Chico to re-open Station 5. By doing this, you will tell the Chico City Council that they should be focused on preserving the safety of the citizens of Chico when making budget cuts.

Please sign and share with your friends. If enough of us sign it, they can't ignore us.
