For 35 years, Sprinker has existed and provided fun, safe recreational opportunities for the citizens of Pierce, Thurston, Kitsap and South King counties. She is truly a regional facility that has positively impacted the lives of millions of visitors. The Pierce County politicians we elected to watch over Sprinker have failed her miserably. Over the past 15 years, Sprinker has watched three different County Executives ignore her while they poured taxpayer funds into their own pet projects. Over those same years, Sprinker continued to limp along while loyal facility maintenance staff used band-aids, duct tape and yes, even buckets in the ceiling, to hold her together. It was just a few weeks ago when citizens were blind-sided when the decision came down that our beloved Sprinker would close on October 31, 2010, due to safety concerns. What? We couldn't believe it.
