Name: Terry Griffith on Feb 19, 2010Comments: The vet tech is CLEARLY at fault here, any animal worker should know better than to do that to a dog while they're stressed, which give the very obvious sings (defecating, shaking) Spork was stressed.Flag

Name: Ashley Niels on Feb 19, 2010Comments: It is absolutely absurd for a vet tech to not expect to be bitten every once in awhile. It's a job hazard. And even children know not to go sticking their faces in a scared dog's face. This is just ridiculous and the city should drop this lest they keep making themselves look ignorant & hateful. I would also recommend that anyone taking their animals to that vet's office to find a new one ASAP!Flag

Name: Julia Elmer on Feb 19, 2010Comments: folks who work in roles that involve animals should absolutely take precautions such as *never* getting in an animal's face - furthermore, they should realize that the job comes with certain hazards - animals can bite, especially when they are in pain or are afraid of something (which is almost always the case when they are at the vet clinic)Flag

Name: Carol Semin on Feb 19, 2010Comments: I have nearly 20 years of experience with vets. Vets and veterinary assistants are TRAINED to know how to deal with animals, esp dogs, during consultations. They learn about animal behaviour and they keep this in mind so as to avoid unnecessary incidents where a frightened animal may defend itself by biting, attacking etc. One absolute NO NO to anyone vaguely versed in animal behaviour, is to put your face infront of that of a frightened dog. How obvious can this be? Do you even need a training to know this??? To start persecuting this dog, by law is preposterous, insane and unamerican, if you "think" you're civilised. The only party who should be prosecuted, is the veterinary assistant who made this decidedly STUPID mistake - was s/he doing her job safely and correctly????? NO. So take your Lawyers and set them onto to him/her for negligence. For God's sake. Leave this innocent animal alone. STOP YOUR RIDICULOUS INSANITY, WHICH THE WORLD NOW KNOWS ABOUT - IS THIS WHAT YOU WANT TO BE KNOWN FOR??? Your stupidity, cowardliness and F******g bullying an animal and its owners. WE HAVE ENOUGH REAL PROBLEMS IN THE WORLD TO SOLVE, WITHOUT YOUR PSYCHOTIC NONSENSE. GET YOURSELVES SOME HELP. and leave the dog alone.Flag

Name: Donna Biggs on Feb 19, 2010Comments: This is INSANE !! All dog find it stressful going to a vet. Different things trigger different responses. My Sadie, who is afraid of everything, has finally (aft. 6 yrs) learned to trust her Vet. She usually just cowards and shakes but if the vet gets near her ears Sadie will snap. So, before the ears get checked she is muzzled for a short period then she gets a treat. So, is my dog also vicious ???Flag

Name: Charlene Baroni on Feb 19, 2010Comments: I have to say that this is one of the most ridiculous cases I have ever heard of. The ineptitude of the "vet tech" is glaringly apparent in her lack of precautions in dealing with a terrified dog. I wonder if she is even fully certified. I believe she probably isn't as the proper procedures for dealing with frightened dogs is one of the most basic things learned. This case should be dropped immediately and Spork's owners compensated for the thousands of dollars that they have spent trying to save their INNOCENT little dog. To end this, I have to say that I am really wondering what the deal is with CO - you have murdered thousands of innocent dogs with your breed ban, and that is still not enough, now you're going after frightened tiny little dogs, too. CO seems to be one of the most "pet-unfriendly" states in the nation and I for one will stay far, far away.Flag

Name: Cheryl Jewhurst on Feb 19, 2010Comments: How ridiculous! Why kind of incompetent stupid vet techie sticks her face in the face of a dog known to snap and be frightened when at the vets. Ever heard of a muzzle? To put the dog in danger of incarceration or worse is the ultimate act of animal cruelty. The vet's office should absolutely be ashamed of themselves and boycotted by all.Flag

Name: Erin Vagias on Feb 19, 2010Comments: This was my dog as a child. I had taken him to the vet numerous times in the past. He is a great loyal family dog that has never caused any harm to humans before. The thought that my parents and Spork have to go through this makes me sick to my stomach. Shame on our society for allowing this to proceed as long as it has! Spork, was in the hands of professionals, or so we had thought. He was there because he was sick and needed surgery. Instead they allowed this to happen and the poor little guy wasn't able to have his procedures done. So you're prosecuted if you don't take care of your animals but also prosecuted for if you do!? Nothing about this case makes any sense. Let's go after good average people and their 10-year-old miniature dachshund instead of going after real criminals... way to go City of Lafayette!Flag

But if the vet/tech can't tell an animal is terrified and take proper precaution, then I'll chose to live elsewhere. I want the best for my 4 legged friends.Flag

The tech should have known better, and should have had the professional training and education to realize this! It is ridiculous that this has gotten this far,and the city of Lafayette, and the vet's office should be ashamed!Flag

When I apologized, the vet said he should have known better than to give a sick dog a shot. If you're in the industry of giving care to pets you should be prepared for their emotions & the occasional mishap. Grow up vet tech!!!!Flag

He belongs with his family; not in a kennel or 'put to sleep' (in this case that would be cold blooded murder). Do the RIGHT thing and let Spork and his family live in peace.Flag

Name: Benjamin McKee on Feb 20, 2010Comments: The laws don't make sense. There is no reason that a vet's office should not be aware of the risk that comes with operating that kind of business. How else is a dog supposed to communicate that its scared? It's unfortunate that Spork had to defend with a bite, but this kind of thing happens at ANY vet's office... only in Lafayette are we hearing of a case of possible execution. Why? Let's change the law and save a dog's life.Flag
