Comments: Instructor Picillo is a huge asset to the Communication Studies Department at Northeastern as well as to Northeastern as a whole! We can't let this happen without a fight!

Comments: Prof. Susan Picillo is one of the most effective teachers I have had at Northeastern. I have had her for Public Speaking and Voice and Articulation. I don't have the details of the reasons why she is being let go, but if it is merely because she does not have a PhD, that is unfortunate. She is a greatly experienced instructor in the field of public communications, theatre and voice, and is one of the most caring, accessible and hard-working professors on campus. She was also a nominee for the Excellence in Teaching Award in 2005. I hope there are other of her former students who join this movement, because they too can attest to her excellent teaching abilities. Effective public communication is a skill that students from business, to political science, to communication studies all require. Prof. Picillo is the most effective instructor in this area, and the university would be doing a disservice to its students and itself if we allow her to leave.

Comments: publications and degrees mean NOTHING except the bogus ranking system. Keep her if kids think she is good. How about getting professors that have real life experience they can teach from, that means credibility to me.

Comments: I took Public Speaking with Professor Picillo in the fall of my freshmen year. It was the very first class I had; thus it was crucial to making a first impression of NU academics. I was very impressed, set at ease and well aclimated, because of Professor Picillo's teaching methods. She was also very sympathetic to me at the loss of my grandfather, and as an overwhelmed student. She was fair, enthusiastic, and she clearly loves what she does. Professors like that are a rare find.

Comments: Public Speaking was one of the hardest classes I've ever taken. That said, I credit this lady with making me speak up and in turn helping me gain such confidence.

Comments: This is an abomination! Professor Picillo was one of my all-time favorite Professors and one of the most genuinely kind, caring professors in the Communication Studies department. I should know--I worked there.

Comments: I had Susan for Public Speaking freshman year. She was the best! I saw such a huge progression in my level of comfort and presence while giving a speech in just one semester. She is one of the most engaging teachers I have had at Northeastern.

Comments: I am appalled! How can such an incredible educator become subject to something like this As a stuent who has taken two classes from her I have always said that those two classes were some of the most beneficial hours i have spent at this university. I have seen, first hand, how she can transform a student's ability to present themselves in a professional manner, a quality that is often forgotten in our soceity today. From my expereinces in her class I have come to describe her as a facilitator of greatness. If Susan Piccillo is no longer an educator at this insitution I KNOW we will suffer a greater loss than most people can realize. In many ways she has changed my life, and I am proud to be able to say that I am one of her students. Shame on you Northeastern; for inflicting such wrong on a woman who is one of the most popular and respected professors at this insitution.

Comments: I had the privilege to take 2 courses with Professor Picillo and she is no doubt my favorite, most respected and admired professor on campus. I am shocked that she would be fired from this institution and hope that this awful mistake will be fixed. I had hoped to enroll in another class of hers in the future!

Comments: Professor Picillo is the best teacher I have had in the Communication Studies department, PhD or not. I have heard nothing but great things about her from my peers and have suggested both her public speaking and voice and articulation classes to other students. I was looking foward to taking more of her classes after co-op and I am hoping that it will be a possibility.

Comments: This is a real shame. Professor Picillo has experience that is more valuable than a degree. We need people like that on campus. Firing her just so that we have a higher percentage of professors with more advanced degrees is bad for the University.
