I never thought I would be writing this but the amphitheater is actually going to be saved and my hands are literally shaking while I type this out. It feels completely surreal that we pulled this off even though I still have a million questions about the next steps and …

The Honorable Chairman Joe Garciaand

The Governorsof the All Indian Pueblo Council

Everett Chavez, Superintendent, The Santa Fe Indian School

The Honorable Senator Jeff Bingaman

The Honorable Senator Tom Udall

Supporters worldwide of the Santa Fe Indian School Paolo Soleri Amphitheater are overjoyed with the recent offer of help extended to Santa Fe Indian School by Senators Udall and Bingaman. We are equally delighted with the positive response released July 19 by Superintendent Everett Chavez of the Santa Fe Indian School.

We urge the Santa Fe Indian School, Pueblo Governors and the Senators to now join together and develop a plan for the Amphitheater's preservation. We understand that the School's sovereignty is paramount, that its educational mission is admirable and that its management and maintenance concerns are legitimate. We believe all these issues can be resolved. Many among us have ideas and suggestions for the Amphitheater's future but can only now offer advocacy because there is no structure within which to proceed.

We respectfully request that you, our leaders, move immediately to establish a framework within which to work out the architectural, financial and managerial components of the Paolo Soleri Amphitheater's long, productive and joyful future.Essential is funding for the over $4.5 million in upgrades the Amphitheater requires, as well as an endowment for its operating costs.

I was just looking at the count and we are creeping up on that thousand mark which feels like a total fever dream honestly. If you could just ping one person who cares about architecture or local history right now maybe we can actually hit that milestone before the day is out because I have a feeling the office of the superintendent is finally starting to notice the noise we are making.

My inbox has been completely swamped lately with so many thoughtful notes about what this space meant to people back when it was active. It feels like the silence from the school is starting to get heavy but I am busy drafting follow up requests to make sure they know we are not going anywhere quietly.

The Indian School sneakily demolished historic structures several years ago — I’m keeping an eye on the amphitheater while biking past it on Montaño Street and the Acequia Trail.

This site holds memory and history of the Pueblos, several prominent schools, the music and entertainment industries, natives, and the city of Santa Fe....please don't demolish it. Do everything you can to preserve this treasure regardless of the outside world...it is a piece of our legacy.

A living gem of American architecture. There are ways to keep the maintenance costs down by partnering with the City of Santa Fe to host more events there.

I grew up watching concerts here. It is a part of history. It is beautiful, and has amazing sound, and should be treasured rather than destroyed. Please.
