Comments: I live in Santa Monica and am very much against the City Council's decision regarding the trees. We need the trees and their shade. Why not set aside the money to replace the ficus trees with ginkgo trees only when they're damaged or irreversibly diseased It's a horrible waste of tax payer's money.

Comments: Other cities have mowed down their beautiful, shade-providing trees in the name of progress, only to realize, all too late, that the trees were an integral part of the city-scape and were what made the area attractive to residents and visitors.

Comments: I see people, in their ignorance, throw trash on the street from their cars almost every day. Throwing away these trees will have the same negative effect on our environment. Please keep them!!!

Comments: Santa Monica is a progressive model in so many ways -- taking out these mature trees would be a black mark on an overall inspirational reputation.

Comments: Not only is the removal crazy, but the cost per tree for removal--$600,000 divided by 50 trees or $12,000 per tree--boggles the mind.

Comments: I guess this constitutes environmental hypocrisy. Santa Monica claiming to be so "environmental". I guess cutting down trees for the "greater" public is there way of doing so. Oh...... the irony.
