| 453 | Sara Ransom | I was living in Cambridge, MA when "they" announced they were cutting down all the huge old trees. People hugged them. The trees were still standing when I moved west in 1987.
Don't destroy old, large-canopy trees. Leave them in their place--for the pedestrians, the birds, the oxygen... If I lived in Santa Monica, I would be out there hugging those trees.
Thank you,
Sara Ransom |
| 454 | Jeff Lawler | I have loved these trees all of my life. Don't cut them down! |

| 459 | Christian John | My girlfriend and I just moved to Santa Monica from New York. No KIDDING when we found our apartment our favorite thing was this Huge Ficus tree right in front of it. DONT DO IT, give the town workers money to do some other stupid thing with it. |
| 460 | marcia tanck | I met a lovely woman at santa monica seafood today (11-20-07) who was wearing the tree lei and she told me about the current situation. Every tree we can save
will help our entire planet. thank you for creating this petition. |

| 468 | heidi hoeck | please don't devastate the little resources we have left!! We are approaching global climate catastrophes... Let's not make the problem worse... so people can shop! |
| 469 | Danette Rivera | I have lived here most of my life, and these ficus are not only gorgeous, they are iconic. It is a ridiculous notion to chop them down. With them gone, downtown would not hold a fraction of its appeal, which is ironic. I will shop down there far less. I will also call for a boycott of any business that has suggested the tree replacement and when I find out who they are I will let all of SM know. We will find out. |

I always shop at Santa Monica, and the trees makes the trip pleasant, I really don't like walking under the sun to shop. |

| 480 | erin | The trees have been around a lot longer than the shopkeepers have been. |

| 482 | kevin thomas | Destroying the ficus trees on 2nd and 4th is a stupid outrage and a terrible waste of taxpayers money. Is nothing sacred in Santa Monica anymore? --KEVIN THOMAS |
| 483 | Mark Gibney | Keep These Ficus Trees!
My family loves visiting Santa Monica (from Ireland), and they particularly love walking and shopping on 4th street. They said it feels like a REAL CITY. The Promenade feels like an uncomfortable sun-baked mall, they say. Why on earth would anyone be so stupid as to cut these trees down? |

| 486 | Gina Garcia | This is the one of the most ludicrous things I have ever heard. I wish I had trees like that on my street. We have to stop this insanity. |

| 498 | Savoy Hallinan | Part of the joy of strolling in Santa Monica in the sunshine, is shade. We need to keep big trees! |
| 499 | Shoko Kagawa | As a foreigner and a suburbanite, I can say that those magnificent ficus trees were the first and the only things that grabbed my attention after coming to LA that made me reconsider my despise for urban settings. Those trees are aesthetically and environmentally vital especially for tourism, an economic base for the city of Santa Monica. |
