Wallsend Labour Party are appalled at the declining state of the shopping facilities in Wallsend and the High street. The closure of the Co-operative Supermarket 18 months ago and the refusal of Morrisons to open their store has resulted in drastically reduced shopping facilities for local residents. As a result, the decreasing footfall in and around the High Street is threatening the livelihood of local traders and we feel that Wallsend Town Centre is in danger of turning into a ghost town if immediate action is not taken. Additionally, the news that the Australian owners of the Forum Shopping Centre has gone into administration only increases the fears and concerns of local people.
If we gather 2,000 signatures we can force a public debate which will require the Council to give us answers about what they intend to do to save Wallsend Town Centre from falling into decline.

Ashleigh swan, United Kingdom3 years ago Comments: Wallsend used to be great but now it's awful. Unless you want to book a holiday, visit a Cafe or go to a second hand shop then there's nothing for you. Wallsend needs a supermarket and maybe a primark would be great!
