Name: Ruth Milne on Feb 18, 2008Comments: This means of making savings for ACC has been advertised as being a closure to make essential repairs. Yes these repairs are necessary but will not take a year to complete. Don't appreciate the attempt to "pull the wool "over the eyes of the citizens of Aberdeen far less the regular rink users the rink must close for as SHORTa PERIOD as possible. Do rink staff and coaches wait patiently for the rink to open again - no the coaches at least will move away and be lost to Aberdeen for ever.Flag

I thought local and national government were trying to keep kids fit and off the streets. Graeme Summers Linx coach Club Development Director, sk8ScotlandFlag

Name: Noel Grimshaw on Feb 18, 2008Comments: It would be devastating to the future of skating not only in the north but also to Scotland to lose such a fine facility. At a time when government and the public are expressing concern at the health of the young and the not so young to snatch away the opportunity for the community to take part in this great Olympic and family sport is very short sighted.Flag

Name: Hazel McLaren on Feb 18, 2008Comments: Please help keep this rink open I am a member to both the "Aberdeen Linx Skating Club" and "Aberdeen Ice Skating Club" and can vouch that many will suffer due to this closure - there are children who compete all over UK on behalf of the two clubs under the Aberdeen name and also children who are training to skate internationally!!! - this will all be for nothing with no rink to practise. I am also aware of a synchro team who are competing for the British Finals in a few months time to defend their gold medals - this will also be jeopardised... etc... etc... there are many other events which will suffer...Flag

Name: Anonymous on Feb 18, 2008Comments: I learned to skate at the 'old' ice rink in Aberdeen in the early 70s. I still skate for enjoyment and to keep fit along with my daughter who has just started coaching. Our club is made up of skaters from age 5 right through to adults now well into their 70s. I am shocked that in an age where sport, fitness and health is at the forefront of policy, that this closure has been considered. Ice Skating is a family sport which can be enjoyed for a lifetime. It should be encouraged and supported.Flag

Name: Alexander Mackie on Feb 18, 2008Comments: i am one of the 6 self employed ice pro's we have at the rink. all of whom do an excellent job coaching ice skating to the people of the north east of scotland. the council cannot go ahead with this. not only does this affect our livelyhoods but will ruin the careers of our young iceskaters and hockey players who in many cases can/will go on to great things within the sport All the years practising at ealry mornings (6am starts) will be ruined not to mention the vast amount of money paid by commited supporting parents for there kids to skate. Aberdeens ice rink has produced many top national skaters in the 15 or so years its been opened, with some achieveing professional careers themselves in the sport and performing within professional shows. For the current young kids to miss 18 months of ice time would completly destoy there skating development which would in my professional opion they probably would never get back. the linx ice arena is an excellent facility and gives so much happiness to many ppl in the north east!!!!! even if the rink was to open in 18 months time, what chance would the city council have of replacing the world class coaching team the linx ice arena has already. aberdeen city council dont let a good thing be wasted here. i really fear for the kids future! And i really hope if you have made money by closing all the pools etc! money you save(if there is any) will be spent on the extra police required to patrol the kids in the street that have nothing to do.Flag
