Comments: The Norwich law library is a great asset to the legal community and to those who cannot afford their own legal counsel. The loss of the Norwich Court house law library will effect those who have the least. Please find a way to keep the law library.

Comments: Many of our clients are suffering the same budgetary constraints in their households and businesses due to the retraction of the economy that the judicial department is attempting to address. The southeastern region of the state will likely to see ongoing job losses due to layoffs and restructuring at the major casinos, EB, and Pfizer. Unfortunately, this firm is not as able as it once was to help those in need on a pro bono basis and often directs those in need of help to the law libraries. Again, "[c]losure of this library will have a serious negative impact on pro se litigants who rely on the law library to gain access to legal materials they need to defend themselves in court. These already disenfranchised individuals often lack transportation options to travel to a distant law library."

Comments: Closing this library will compromise effective justice for pro se litigants. This is a penny-wise, pound foolish budget cut.

Comments: As a newly licensed attorney the law libraries are an invaluable tool, the loss of which would impact not only myself but also the clients I represent. I understand the need for budget cutbacks but any benefit gained by cutting the Norwich Law Library would be greatly outweighed by the burden it would impose on both local attorneys and pro se litigants.

Comments: These law libraries serve a crucial need, especially for impoverished people trying to represent themselves pro se. It is the Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association's position that the closing of court houses and court libaries has negative impact on the administration of justice and disproportionately so on indigent citizens. Sincerely, Conrad Ost Seifert, President, Connecticut Criminal Defense Lawyers Association
