Stop China Building a Highway to Mount Everest!

The petition

In a bid to make the Beijing 2008 Olympics more lucrative for the nation, China has decided to build a highway which goes right up to Mount Everest Basecamp. Although the decision has been contested by local environmetalists and tibetans, the building should start next month!!

Mount Everest is a unique ecological environment and still one of the most remote and most beautiful areas in the World. Not only would a highway destroy this lands unique ecology but it would be open to a hig influx of Tourism, creating enormous polloution of what was util now, untouched land!!

The chinese eventually want to turn Mount Everest and the surrounding area into a resort!

Is this what progress is? Is this how we treat our wolrd wonders. Mount Everst is unique and it should stay that way. It shouldn't be buried under a thick layer of ashphalt..it should be protected. Please sign the petition and make Chine reason ! This is outrageous and we as a world population CANNOT allow them to destroy it!
