The petition
The Moss Rock Preserve is one of the most unique and beautiful natural preserves in the United States. Home to acres of hardwood forest, the Preserve is the last substantial refuge for local wildlife. But The Preserve is much more than a sanctuary. The Preserve contains some of the best climbing in the Southeast, debatably one of the oldest known rock formations in the world, as well as isolated species of moss unique to Moss Rock.
Because of this, the Preserve is of global environmental significance, and it is our job, as the surrounding community, to protect it. Instead of protection, the plans are to destroy the sanctuary of Moss Rock for profit by expanding the ironically named "Preserve" neighborhoods right up to and around the Boulder Fields.
From the beginning of development, the community was given the impression that "The Preserve" neighborhood would help "preserve" this area, and that the Boulder Fields will remain protected and SECLUDED. Now we can see that the plans all along have been to devastate the area for development. We have a responsibility, as concerned citizens of this community, to keep this from happening.
Both The City of Hoover and USSteel have reputations for environmental sensitivity at stake. We believe that they will seriously reconsider this plan if shown how many people dearly love and want to permanently protect the star of Moss Rock Preserve... the Boulder Fields.
We are petitioning The City of Hoover to return to the drawing table with USSteel so that there is a large buffer of protection for the boulder fields. We need your support!
We are calling all nature and climbing enthusiasts. Already, the surrounding woods have been stripped out, but this is only the beginning. Only a portion of the Preserve development is complete. One day the boulder fields will be someone's backyard! You can play a major role in altering this development. By signing this petition, you can help save the Moss Rock Preserve for our generation and generations to come.
