As you all know, the wonderful building, Maple Leaf Gardens, was recently turned over to a grocery store chain and will be converted into a multi-level shopping centre. This is extremely upsetting to many people in the city of Toronto, and Toronto Maple Leafs fans alike. It would be an absolute shame to completely destroy the inside of this arena, taking with it all the history and heritage. Maple Leaf Gardens is a Canadian, historical land mark and should be left as a shrine for hockey. This petition is meant to gain support from all those who believe this facility should be kept and revamped as some sort of sports facility, or perhaps a museum of some type. The fact that the inner part of this building will be desecrated beyond a recognizable degree is unacceptable. It is easily understood that maintaining the building the way it is would be extremely tough. However, many offers have been put on the table in the past to keep it as an operational hockey rink, all of which were turned down. This building is far too rich in history and memories that it be ripped apart. All those in power over this situation, please consider these facts. I, the undersigned, hereby recognize the fact that Maple Leaf Gardens is indeed a Landmark and should not be tampered with in any way, shape or form for financial gain. Keep Maple Leaf Gardens alive as a hockey rink, and the memory of all those who have been involved with this building!
Fans of the Toronto Maple Leafs and the people of Toronto!
