The Wessex Association of Chambers of Commerce are supporting the North Wiltshire town Chambers of Commerce in their campaign to prevent Lyneham from becoming and economic wasteland. The economic impact to the North Wiltshire businesses and community at large will have a devasting effect. Our aim is to encourage the strategic defence review (which meets in October) to seriously consider filling the economic void by relocating other smaller military supply bases and a return base for troops returning from Germany to Lyneham.
Wootton Bassett, Lyneham, Calne, Malmesbury, Corsham, Cricklade, Melksham, Chippenham and other North Wiltshire communities suffer economically, with estimates of up to a 50% loss in trade for our towns that could turn this area into an economic wasteland. It will seriously affect all our lives.
The army wants to merge some of the smaller technical bases in Wiltshire. What better place for them to come to than Lyneham? A base big enough to take the amalgamation and have room for returning troops from Germany. It makes economic and geographical sense - and saves our towns.
Write for support to North Wiltshire MP - James Gray, and put your name to both our Twitter, and Facebook campaigns on `Lyneham Needs You`.

gillian mitchell, United Kingdom3 years ago Comments: I think it is a real shame that repatriations will no longer go through wootton bassett and there may not be an equivalent at brize. the local community should be rewarded with their economy being continued to be boosted by the people who come to pay their respects but also by raf personnel based at lyneham. i also think that the respect paid to those who have lost their life in the line of duty is irreplaceable. it means so much to the families of those who have sacrificed so much. such things should be above politics and budget.
Janette Griffin, United Kingdom3 years ago Comments: Save Lyneham and save the Wootton Bassett remembrance parades.
Jessie Gaynor, United Kingdom3 years ago Comments: Sorely needed as Brize is over taxed now
