The university management at LSBU have closed down the language centre, just days before the start of the new term. Provision of foreign language teaching is a necessary part of the core business of a univeristy, particularly our institution with so many international students. The ability of students to possess second languages is valued by employers, thus increasing employablility and potential salaries, while broadening students horizons. In addition the closure of the entire department will see up to 40 jobs being lost. This recent closure comes as part of a wider campaign of unnecessary cuts at the University, which has seen over 100 redundancies, a scrapping of the emergency loans system, and represents an attack on the quality of our education. It goes against LSBU's corporate line "students first". We the undersigned, stand against these, and all cuts at London South Bank University, and will campaign to ensure the protection of our education, staff and institution.
