Name: Molly (Winton) Lothamer on Apr 13, 2007Comments: This would take away one of the few recreational areas available to students on campus. There is not enough "green space" for the school to make Lloyd Beach into a parking lot. This is a bad idea.Flag

Name: Meghan Cobble on Apr 13, 2007Comments: Lloyd Beach is such a source of commradery and social gatherings for MC students; it was so fun to spend time laying out, socializing, and playing frisby there. Not to mention, think of all the crowds watching the MC Scots play soccer from above!! I think it would be so sad to see Lloyd Beach become an area designated to house vehicles instead of a place where many great memories are made for MC grads!!!Flag

Name: Peter B. Trofatter on Apr 15, 2007Comments: With MC's focus on wellness and conservation, it would be a shame to deplete our open space even more. It is important that MC maintains such areas as Lloyd Beach as places for student's to participate in a variety of liesure and school activities. Even though MC is growing, all availible options must be visited. Parking will always be an issue, but is it not an issue eveywhere Let's face it, a parking problem at the University of Tennessee is legitimate; people have to walk, in some cases, nearly a mile from class to class. MC does not have that problem. We need to think less about what is convienient here. Our campus is not that big, we can all take a few extra steps to get to class. Maryville College is unique in that it still has open space for its faculty, alum, students, and the community. We need to try our hardest to keep these spaces avilible to maintain the future historical integrity of the college.Flag

Name: Georgia Copeland on Apr 15, 2007Comments: Please don't let this peaceful retreat turn into a block of pavement. This is not what Maryville College stands for and it would mean progress in the wrong direction. Not only would this completely change the landscape of the area and recreational possibilities for paying students, there are also endless environmental complications with paving to boot. Did anyone take Perspectives on the Environment Was "going Green" in some of the campus buildings just for fun I'm confident that there are many passionate members of faculty and student body at MC, the ones that keep the Maryville spirit vibrant, that will take this debate to a reasonable compromise, with much discussion before a decision is made. Perhaps Maryville should give greater heed to "quality not quantity" when recruiting students. I'd love to speak at greater length with anyone about this issue; I'm not sure how serious this proposition is at this point in time.Flag

Keep MC beautiful....a large lot of green grass is something you cannot replace...we spent so much time on Lloyd beach-- it was a great place to study and get away from all the buildings that surround the campus.Flag

Name: Taylor Bates-Rogers on Apr 16, 2007Comments: I think tha maryville is so beautiful and that is one of its most atracive dfeatures that if they want to pave something pave the parking lot next to the pavillon and make that a required parking area. and if they are so cramped on housing they should let paople who want to live off campus do so. but if they pave lloyd beach i may leave maryville because they are more worried about money than i=our education.Flag
