Name: Jeff Engelking on Jan 20, 2010Comments: NO to Walgreen's. Like we need another outlet to buy drugs and trinkets. LEAVE THE LAGRANGE ALONE. Like countless others, my parents had their wedding reception there 46 years ago. This a historical building and a local treasure. It would be a sacrilege to demolish it, period.Flag

Name: Frank Scalia on Sep 30, 2010Comments: I have been in the catering and restaurant business for over 35 years and have been a resident within this local area. I share the the view that the preservation and continuation of La Grange is of vital concern not only to our community but to Long Island. The concepts of a mini village around this landmark facility would be a most complimental addition. "We Do Not Need A Wallgreens to deface the image this magnificent landmark"! "Lets keep the historic image and La Grange will survive with success"! I will urge my following to support the efforts of the task force and to patronize La Grange for catering and enjoyable lunches and dinners. My Very Best Wishes And ConcernsFlag

Name: Susan Forbes Gohs on Sep 6, 2011Comments: This is a family ancestral property; my great grandmother was Ida Higbie Forbes. I have family record of this property when it was bought by Samual Higby from Indian Chief Scankeet about 1667. It was apparently built by Samual A Higby and Nehemiah was first owner and keeper of the Inn, then it passed to his son. In 1824, on invitation of Congress, Lafayette stopped there and it is said that he named the Inn for his own country place in France, "La Grange"…"It was like the old hotel life in England." Too many properties with historical significance such as this are being destroyed. I have not been to see the Inn, yet I can imagine that the town wants to keep this historical presence of such greatness in lieu of an unnecessary Walgreen's. There is no comparison between the two options. Please keep the history in tact where it still exists. Besides, I'd like to visit this inn knowing that my ancestors once roamed about the property, summer after summer for their family reunions in the 1800's and early 1900's. I reside in California.Flag
