Name: Althea Reustle on Apr 7, 2008Comments: Relative to La Bajada Mesa, I am totally opposed to any rezoning, especially to create a new Mining District. Rockology is an unscrupulous company trying to lie its way into distruction of a truly beautiful, natural and historic area, the La Bahada mesa. Distruction for personal profit....we all look at the results of that every time we drive south of Santa Fe on NM 14 (the Turquoise Trail Scenic Route) and see the scarred flanks of the Ortiz Mountains. I remember when they were a beautiful forested habitat for wildlife, a joy to behold. Before the County allowed Pegasus/Goldfields/ and other mining companies to destroy them.Flag

Name: Tracy Ragan on Apr 16, 2008Comments: Please to not approve the strip mining of La Bajada Mesa. The consequence of this would be disastrous for our local community in many ways. First our New Mexcio heritage is at risk, not to mention the adverse air quality concerns. Please do not approve this action.Flag

Name: Tamara J. Stewart on Apr 16, 2008Comments: La Bajada Mesa is highly significant for its cultural and natural features and has been designated an endangered historic site of great significance. It is also a traditional cultural property of Santo Domingo and Cochiti Pueblos, and therefore should be permanently protected and preserved.Flag

Name: Allen Fowler on Apr 17, 2008Comments: The desire to turn La Bajada Mesa into a sand and gravel operation is a periodic, recurring event in the area. Although I have no constructive suggestions, some action by the Board of Commissioners should be taken to protect this unique geologic resource. Thanks for considering my comments. Allen FowlerFlag

Name: Anonymous on Apr 17, 2008Comments: I can't believe we are talking about mining La Bajada mesa again. What is it with people that they think tearing up the land or putting holes in it everywhere is good for New Mexico Without the immense beauty of this land there is really no reason for tourists to come here or many of us to stay here. Please put an end to the idea of tearing up La Bajada once and for all. It is the gateway to Santa Fe.Flag

Name: Gail Buono on Apr 17, 2008Comments: I vehemently oppose any mining or drilling in Santa Fe County. Eventhough they say that they only want to stripmine 50 acres now, once they get their foot in the door, more will follow, because a precedent has been set. Please deny their application! Thank you.Flag

Name: Dianne Eschman on May 3, 2008Comments: This idiotic rush to mine everything in the west in the small hope of getting a minute amount of energy from the ground, and ruining, forever, the scenic value of the area is absurd. These companies should be forced, by govt. to pursue production of alternative sources of energy, not be given subsidies to produce old technology that rapes and pillages the areas where they are done and contributes to global warning. It's time the gov't showed some backbone and change the mining laws and start to protect it's natural environments or the entire country will start to look like something out of "Blade Runner"Flag

Dump your waste in your mothers front yard but stay the hell out of New Mexico. Yes it looks empty but it is inhabited and we like it just the way it is.Flag

The trail up La Bajada Hill into Santa Fe is one of the few. The historic trail and the La Bajada escarpment must be preserved for future generations to enjoy New Mexico's colonial and territorial heritage.
