Name: Alex Shen on Feb 13, 2011Comments: I have been a DJ and volunteer at KALX and KZSC in the past and understand the importance of public and community radio as well as how they give students and community members alternative options to commercial radio. Not only do KUSF and stations like it give education to those involved but it represents an underground culture of music that gives San Francisco an identity.Flag

I don't think i'd have either of my businesses, which employee over 75 music loving people here in SF, if it wasn't for the inspiration KUSF has provided over the years. Give the staff, volunteers, supporters, alumni, and others a chance to pitch in and match or surpass the financial goal necessary to keep this as KUSF, 90.3 FM and on the campus.Flag

Name: Anna Kazanjian on Feb 15, 2011Comments: KUSF is an exceptional local radio station that provides a wide spectrum of ethnic groups an outlet for broadcast (Arab, Chinese, Armenian, etc.) as well as having a great variety of music for many. As a listener for over 20 years, I'm appalled at how the University pulled the plug without weighing in with student and local groups on the selling of the station. KUSF gave credence to the Jesuit university as an open-minded institution supporting the needs of many, not the needs of the few in the name of profit. Shame on the University for being so short-sighted- an outcry among local stations has been heard all over the country. Reinstate KUSF to its former position. Thank you.Flag

Name: Kurt Van Allsburg on Feb 16, 2011Comments: As long as I've lived in the Bay Area, I've known KUSF as one of the last bastions of free-form radio in a discouragingly homogeneous and vapid medium. The university has signaled by its actions that KUSF's standout identity means nothing -that distinctiveness, courage, and discernment (principles espoused by Jesuits and USF itself) offer no bargaining power in the closed boardrooms where $3.5 million corporate radio deals are made. I feel too powerless in this situation to be angry, so I suppose I am only sad that, once again, educational administrators have elected compromise and prevarication while slowly killing each opportunity for genuine learning.Flag

Name: Jodi Isaacs on Feb 17, 2011Comments: I love the diversity of programming on KUSF and think its a valuable public resource. The secret sale of the station without public notice or comment seems potentially unlawful or in the least inappropriate for a university that supports education and free exchange of ideas.Flag

Name: Ilana Weiss on Feb 17, 2011Comments: Public radio needs to stand alone since there is so much government opinion that I don;t agree with. The Constitution says we have a right for free speech. The Patriot Act have done null and void. We do not live in a free country anymore. It is horrific. I am a patriot who is about too move out of my country. I am to embarrassment to live here and watch the destruction of our country. We have a right to program any radio show we want.Flag

Name: Joshua Maremont on Feb 21, 2011Comments: I grew up with KUSF, and its programming expanded my musical horizons more than anything else at the time. My band, like most bands in SF, was first played on the air via Germ's demo tape show, and the station has for decades been central in promoting the various local music communities. It is difficult to imagine SF's past three decades without KUSF on the air, and it is sad to think of a new decade - and a new generation of listeners and musicians - without it.Flag
