Name: Eva Williams on Jan 20, 2011Comments: I am an older SF resident and have been enchanted with the eclectic musical format found on KUSF, since moving here in the 1980s. KUSF has fed my need for cultural awareness, and this is no doubt true for other SF residents (of all ages and ethnicities) served by these FM airwaves. What a shock and loss. The suddenness of KUSF's removal is an insult to the citizens of SF, as well as the SFU students and KUSF paid and unpaid workers. Beyond that, I question the so-called Jesuit ethic in the way this was handled. Do you think that everyone who depended on KUSF's can afford a computer? I doubt that was even considered, worse yet, do you even care?. What about the outstanding DJs? What about local musicians? Will they be included in the new broadcasting format? Shame on the despotic manner in which the university powers handled this. With each day that passes, these words appear to be ever so true: "The grabbing hands grab all they can, all for themselves, after all...it's a competitive world...everything counts in large amounts...[Depech Mode]." Well, we who love the music seem to count very little, and every day we seem to have less and less of a say in what's really important in life. Respectfully, Eva 55 years oldFlag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 20, 2011Comments: I have been listening to KUSF, since I moved to San Francisco many years ago. I have always enjoyed the eclectic playlist and the fact that they broadcast music that no one else does. KUSF is an important source of alternative music and information in a world of continuing consolidation of major media outlets.Flag

Name: Gregory Oliva on Jan 20, 2011Comments: The sale of KUSF's frequency to KDFC is a terible idea. No input from the listeners of KUSF was solicited. It was a backroom deal. KUSF is a valuable cultural resource, and needs to be preserved.Flag

It was the only thing of its kind in San Francisco, a seriously valuable cultural gem. A terrible move!Flag

Name: Daen De Leon on Jan 20, 2011Comments: I am shocked at the callous manner in which this long-term community voice was silenced. The university has treated the KUSF license as a mere chattel, to be disposed of at whim and without consultation instead of the valuable resource which it is. The heavy-handed, in camera and ultimately unfair way in which this fait accompli was executed is a public relations disaster for the university, and I for one shall work hard to make sure that as many people know what has been perpertrated here. If by a man's actions shall ye know him, then Rev. Stephen A. Privett is an underhanded cold-hearted cheat. There is an opportunity to make recompense, by announcing the intention to sell the license and allowing an open bid for it. It may be that the USC deal is scuppered, but we are dealing with more than a simple business transaction here - USF is supposed to be a considerate and engaged bastion of the Bay Area community, not some thuggish banking cartel, as it is currently behaving. Shame on USF and those who brokered this in camera deal!Flag

Name: Melissa Martin on Jan 20, 2011Comments: KUSF is an integral part of the San Francisco Bay Area culture landscape and shutting it down is eliminating an important part of what makes SF so wonderful. If the station had no listeners it would be one thing but there is a large and diverse audience of this station and I do not think it should be allowed to be shut down without giving the community a chance to voice their opinion and support the station.Flag

Name: Anonymous on Jan 20, 2011Comments: Listener since 1992, this is a HUGE loss to the city of SF. Not everyone can stream radio online! We need independent, non-corporate voices like KUSF to stay on the air amidst the generic and spiritless formatted radio stations that remain. Classical music is already part of the KUSF playlists, we don't need to hear it 24/7!Flag

Name: Jess Clarke on Jan 20, 2011Comments: Independent radio stations are crucial elements in educating the public and the student body. It is an abuse of a public resource for USF to profit off the sale of this station in a secretive 3 way transaction with commercial entities. It makes a mockery of the Jesuit's mission statement for running the university.Flag

Name: Susan McKenna on Jan 20, 2011Comments: I was very proud to be on the air the night KUSF-FM broadcast for the first time. I am an alumni, class of 1978. I was also the first woman to receive the Speiler Award for achievement in the Mass Media Studies program. This college radio station changed the entire course of my life. Because of volunteer work as a producer, engineer and co-host (San Francisco Scene) I was hired immediately after graduation at Warner Bros. Records in Burbank (3000 recent college grads applied). My KUSF days were the best, and my friends still remain. It is a tragedy that this opportunity for creativity, growth and expression through music should be ever taken away from students or the community. This is wrong on so many levels. Us freaks & geeks, not the norm of USF (pre-med, pre-law, computer science, nursing) were and still are given the freedom to express talent like no other venue can provide, including the internet. I had to earn my FCC 3rd class broadcast endorsed license in order to be on the air, learn to operate a board, edit, and go live. Please think carefully and reconsider this decision. It is not "Money That Matters". It is people, service and community that matters.Flag
