The mother's and families of Miami deserve to have choices with regard to childbirth and deserve to have the best care possible. The Jackson South Women's Center has a proven track record of fine health care service and it would be a great loss.Flag

Name: Vanessa Noriega on Jun 15, 2010Comments: exctly one month ago, tomorrow, i had my first baby at Jackson South. The staff there was amazing to me and my family. Midwife Corina, never left my side during labor, and the nurses that cared for me during my stay were very nurturing and helpful during my recovery. My labor was took about 16 hrs, and i know for sure that had i gone anywhere else (such as mercy hospital, which is one block away from my house), they immediately would have pushed a c-section on me. Hospitals nowadays are losing the personal touch with patients, treating patients as objects or clients, rather than human beings. what has become important is how much they can produce vs. the care they provide. I know we are going through a tough financial times, and of course it is important to make money, but we must always keep a balance. If the women´s center at jackson south were to close, women would be at a great loss. The hospital would be losing an incredible team of staff, and women in the community would truly miss out on a great pre-natal/post-partum experience, and a place where they can have a say in their birth plan. Please make a serious consideration to keep the center open. there is surely a way to make the center work and make ends meet. Thank you for your time. Vanessa NoriegaFlag

Name: Sue Schumerth on Jun 15, 2010Comments: Jackson South has the lowest cesarean section rate and this is because of the CNM's there!!!! They are saving the hospital money!!! Why on earth would you get rid of a program that not only saves the hospital money, but also serves such a vital role in the community? Healthier low income mamas, through good prenatal care, giving birth the way birth was intended to be, which is healthier for baby and allows mama's recovery time to be quicker thereby giving her a huge headstart on breastfeeding and bonding with her new baby. ALL of this leads to a much healthier community immediately and in the long run! DO NOT close down the midwives!!!Flag

Name: Justine Clegg on Jun 15, 2010Comments: Last year alone, JSCH Women’s Center CNMs provided care to over 2000 women, for many their only access to reproductive healthcare. Early, regular prenatal care improves outcomes, especially in minority populations, those at greatest risk for pregnancy complications, premature delivery, stillbirth, infant morbidity and mortality. JMHS is the only Dade hospital fully staffed by CNMs 24-7, answering demands for a midwife-attended hospital birth, increasingly important to consumers wanting to avoid a cesarean. JSCH Women’s Center contributes to the health and economic wellbeing of our community and fulfills the commitments of the Public Health Trust. Eliminating JSCH Women's Center may save dollars in the short-term but by cost shifting and reducing access to care, will increase financial strains on our already overburdened health and education systems.Flag

This would tarnish the reputation of the hospital for myself and many women and their extended families. You are doing the community a great service and I'm sure it will help the Obama helth plan to have as many women as possible have their births attended by CNM. You can keep up your reputation by keeping the center which I din't know about but now am very willing to fight to keep.Flag

As a mother and a resident of Miami-Dade county, I am writing to ask that the Jackson South Women's Center remain open. Thanks.Flag

Name: Corina Fitch on Jun 16, 2010Comments: The Jackson South midwives are an ESSENTIAL part maternity care in Dade county. They provide EXCELLENT care and have the lowest Cesarean rate in the county. If we lose them, many women will have no place to go! We cannot afford this kind of loss in the community.Flag

Name: Alicia Montemurro on Jun 17, 2010Comments: The fact that the CNM's at Jackson South have the lowest cesarean section rate in Miami Dade county is incredibly important to reversing a terribly unhealthy and dangerous trend of increasing numbers of cesareans with no end in sight. The CNM's should be REWARDED for this accomplishment, not shut down because they don't bring in the money that comes with cesareans! Choose people-interests over money-interests!Flag
