Name: Julie Sharman on May 26, 2011Comments: I'm the chair of Liverpool Diving Club, which has operated for many years from the IM Marsh campus. Closure of the pool means the end of access to diving boards by kids and young people across the whole of Merseyside. Nearest available faciltiies in Manchester (that's handy- not!). We are all devastated. Our coaches and helpers are all volunteers- we have jobs but still put our time & money aside to further the sport & sporting opportunities for the kids. Isn't that what this campus should be about? Come on LJMU. What are you thinking?Flag

Name: Dr Neil King on May 27, 2011Comments: As both a local resident and vice chair of the Liverpool Sports Forum I am happy to support the case for keeping the IM Marsh facilities open to the community. The closing of the swimming pool needs to be challenged and I suggest that the community acquire legal advice alongside working with the media and politicians in this matter.Flag

Name: Nicky Yates on May 27, 2011Comments: I have worked across the city for the last 3 years to increase the number of physical activity opportunities to improve physical and mental health of residents and reduce obesity/ stress/ anxiety/ isolation. The closure of yet another much valued pool is contributing to the huge health challenges we already have within the city and I urge the decision makers to do the right thing by the people of the city and not just the budget. The loss of this pool will leave a gap in much needed services for students and local people and one which will not be replaced for a very long time. Furthermore, the historical value of the of the complex is something that must be upheld for the good of our identity and local heritage.Flag

It lies in the heart of the community and should be kept for the purpose it was always intended for by the original owners.Flag

Name: Steve Malone on May 29, 2011Comments: The Campus has played a very important role in the community for many years playing a significant part in the development for many thousands of children both from the local community and the wider area. It is a flagship and statement for the enducation system also playing an active role in the basic education of children from an early age. This will be just another 'Financial' decision taking priority over the wellbeing of children and the community.Flag

Name: Liz Powell on Jun 7, 2011Comments: I grew up just down the road from IM Marsh and have so many fantastic memories. School sports events, dance and drama classes in the egg and even attempting the dry ski slope. I was very sad to hear about the plans to close the campus as my daugter had chose here at a seminar held at her school in Jersey as the place she would love to attend. Please keep up with the petition....Flag

Name: Cllr Patrick Hurley on Jun 9, 2011Comments: JMU supposedly has a "commitment to making a positive difference to sports and leisure opportunities in the community". Closing the swimming pool is completely contrary to this commitment. Given the other investment JMU is planning to make in the IM Marsh site over the next couple of years, there seems little logic in closing the well-used and much-valued swimming pool, only to maintain other services at the same site. On a wider issue, the planned closure of the whole site in the years to come is a tragedy for South Liverpool. There are limited enough sporting opportunies for local people as it is; taking the public's access to IM Marsh's complex away is just rubbing salt into the wounds of a public already feeling the effect of cuts to their services in other areas of their life.Flag

Name: Tom Kinloch on Jun 11, 2011Comments: Please preserve this green field site for the use and benefit of the people of South Liverpool and for the students, to help with their all round development. Apart from the loss to the community of the very important facilities at IM Marsh, it's impossible to imagine how the local infrastucture (road network etc) will cope with hundreds of new houses.Flag

Name: Jim Burke on Jun 11, 2011Comments: The JMU IM Marsh is in the heart of the community, the facilities are used by students and residents alike. The Campus, we believe should not be sold and built on but be kept for educational purposes and for use by local residents. The loss of the Campus will have a negative effect on the area and the facilities on offer for students and residents. We call on the VC of JMU to change policy on this matter as a matter of urgency and to stop the closure of the pool planned for Aug 2011.Flag

It will be a loss to the local people, schools and the city alike. Poor decision by JMU, perhaps not the college it once was?Flag

I was a student at I M Marsh College 1958 - 1961 and am proud of the long history of the College as a Teacher Training Institution. The sports facilities have been very important to local schools and residents and should not be lost to the community.Flag
