We are fighting against the new HOPE proposal. Beginning this fall, students with a 3.0 GPA attending Georgia public colleges and universities will receive 90 percent of the standard tuition rate. You must have at least a 3.7 to receive 100 percent aid. Students attending private colleges with this scholarship will now get $3,600. Funding for books and mandatory fees will be eliminated, as well as remedial classes, eligible hours for the scholarship will be a max. of 127 and HOPE scholars have to be prepared for college-level work, so they are requiring these students to take a certain number of rigorous high school courses. They created the Zell Miller scholarship program, named for the governor who created HOPE. Under the new legislation, Zell Miller scholars will include the top 10 percent of HOPE scholars under the present system based on both a 3.7 GPA and a 1200 SAT or 26 ACT score. These changes will affect YOU, ME, YOUR BROTHERS/SISTERS, FRIENDS, and PEERS. Let your voice be heard and tell your friends! Georgia State University's Student Government Association is trying to get students together, from all across the state, to fight against these new changes. We need students standing outside the Capitol, rallying against the new HOPE proposals. You have to let your state representative know that these changes are not what you want to see. We will also need students dressed in business professional, dressed to play, to lobby and speak inside the Capitol, letting our concerns be heard loud and clear inside the walls of the Capitol. PLEASE TELL AS MANY PEOPLE AS YOU CAN! HOPE IS IN DANGER AND WE CAN NOT LET IT PASS WITHOUT VOICING OUR OPINIONS, CONCERNS, AND THOUGHTS. Come and fight for your education. This is open for any college student around the state of Georgia, so tell EVERYONE! Our education is on the line, so let us fight to keep HOPE alive! -Grace Lee :) GSU Senator, Andrew Young School of Policy Studies
