Elliott RandallI humbly ask the Planning Commissioners to please reconsider their decision. An underground parking garage that would accommodate 242 cars may appear to be 'good business' but losing Capitol Records' ability to make quality (and COMMERCIALLY SUCCESSFUL) sounds, having been used through 5 decades by the biggest names in the music industry (Frank Sinatra et al). As a music producer who has lived worked/ in both NY & LA, this would be a devastating blow to myself, my colleagues, and an industry all ready in big trouble. Please reconsider! Thank you Elliott Randall http://www.elliott-randall.com

Rene Anton LopezThis like other historical landmarks as are the historical recordings such as that of Frank Sinatra and the many artist that have recorded there should be preserved and listed under such landmarks . The Reverb Chambers are as vital along with its surrounding . With the current thinking hollywood should be just a scared of condos being built in and around the hollywood sign . L.A. already has a reputation of being a city with few landmarks and being a huge suburb. I for one agree with AL Schmidt . Having worked in L.A. i can tell you were you record is vital along with its magical ambience.

Jeff CrewsDear Councilman Garcettil My name is Jeff Crews. I live in New York City and I am a mix engineer. I read the article on what is happening to Capital Studios in L.A. As a member of the music community, which makes its livelyhood from studios such as Capital, it would be a shame and a disaster for anything to happen to this great studio. Remember Councilman, the history of this studio, the legendary sessions and music, which came from Capital Studios, like Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, and a host of other great artists that has recorded there. I implore you to find a way to keep the integrity of Capital Studios and I raise my voice with my colleagues such as Al Schmitt. I hope these words will help you to find a way to a solution to help preserve Capital Recording Studios. Sincerely yours, Jeff Crews

Jay NewlandThe recording community in New York is currently being devastated by over development. Let's not let this happen in L.A. Capitol Studios in Hollywood is an iconic institution in the history of recorded music and MUST be protected.
AnonymousCapitol Records Studios are an icon in the recording industry with a rich history and they continue to be used now and in the future. This is truly a part of the Hollywood legend. Please do not destroy this incredible combination of science and art. I have recorded there many times.
AnonymousPlease don't destroy a piece of music history and one of music's greatest innovative studios.

Cynthia KlenkI would ask that due consideration be given to the unique and historic environment that is Capitol Recording Studios. Its unique properties have lead and continue to lead to music produced with a distinctly American sound. Construction noise poses a distinct threat to a recording environment.
Tom DursoLoss of this and the other historical and World Class recording studios needs to cease now. Where will all this stop.....eventually they'll want to tear down Disneyland and sink the Queen Mary in the name of "progress?".
Michael CarnesEven though I'm responsible for much in the way of high-quality artificial reverberators, I'm keenly appreciative of the special value Capitol provides with their echo chambers. It would be an absolute pity to see them ruined simply so another condo developer could make a buck. Capitol is one of those increasingly rare organizations providing absolute top-quality audio. Allow them to keep doing that.

Michael FenielloCommissioners: There indeed are thousands of us who recognize the uniqueness of the Capitol facility, and aspire to work there. Is not the the tax contribution of new residential projects dwarfed by the revenue generated by our industry, and enjoyed by the city and the county of Los Angeles?
Ken EricksonMusic is such an integral part of everyone's lives. It is the common thread that runs through us all. No matter how young or old ....MUSIC is a part of everyone. Please consider what you're doing to the record community and put a stop to this project. Money isn't everything and when you put it before our musical heritage ...God Help us all !!!!!

Ed WolfrumAs one of the original Motown Engineers I can attest to the importance of the use of fine reverberation enhancement. When Motown, Golden World and United Sound were closed it did great damage to to "Sound of Detroit." Having also MIXED at Capitol I know how important this is to the "HOLLYWOOD Sound." I stand with Al and all of the other great L.A. engineers in asking that some arrangement be worked out with Second City and the contractors to allow this great recording facility to maintain its operation. Additionally, the noise of the vehicles in the underground garage and the transmission of this noise to the chambers should be explored as well.

AnonymousIf you must knock the tower down, please place the current EMI staff tn there.
Brian CalhoonLeave this building and its history alone, if its removed a large portion of american music history will be lost forever and we will regret it!

Michael MurrayProtecting the Capitol Records facilities should be a number one priority for the city of Hollywood. The Tower itself is a symbol of the city, which is recognized throughout the world, a tourist attraction that generates significant income for the community, and a powerful icon of the American music recording industry. The Capitol recording studios have seen so many incredible music acts though the years and are the birthplace of a rich and vibrant sound that has never been duplicated. The studios are simultaneously a museum of some of the finest popular music ever recorded and a place where new musical ideas are still brought into the world. The idea of locating a condominium in such close proximity to these facilities that operations will be negatively affected is unconscionable. Indeed, no expense should be spared to preserve the legacy of Capitol Records.

nick sharpeOK... so the ol KFWB shack is gettin long in the tooth, but 16 Stories? 242 cars? yes there is a lotta space that could be put to better use. I've been looking at those "parking" lots for 28 years wonderin when they would be developed. BUT Just remember, not only is the "house the Beatle's built" historical for LA, but all that comes out of there is shared with the world (maybe the universe!) and deserves it's place of prominence on that block. so... 4-5 stories max and pkg for 50-60 cars will be enough to choke that part of town. infill is fine, when done right. we'd love the whole world to live here, but, uh, we CAN'T, OK?
Rich Ireland
Shannon NewmanPlease consider the impact of your decisions. Growing up around the Nashville music community I still remember the reverent awe I felt the first time I visited Hollywood and saw the Capitol Records Tower. Even for a Tennessee boy seeing that tower is a magical experience. The Capitol Records Tower is a national treasure and destructive development is like turning the Grand Canyon into a landfill.
Alan NuThe Capitol Records echo chambers aren't just some historic landmark we can see and talk about. They're part of the ongoing creation of great music. Their impact in the hands of talented engineers, on the music they become part of is incalculable. Losing the echo chambers would do nothing but diminish any future music recorded at Capitol. Please preserve an important part of recorded music's future.
Scott Zimmerman
Marc VanGoolThe Capitol Records building is a historical landmark in Los Angeles, It has such a rich history of both artistic and technical innovation - it should be protected. Les Paul's echo chambers (and other design contributions) have played a major role in the way music has been produced over the past 65 years! Please don't underestimate the significance of the work done at Capitol Studios! Some people have argued that modern digital recording plug-ins can emulate the sound of the Capitol echo chambers, but as a professional engineer and technician I must stand up and say that although digital emulations are getting better and better, they still cannot accurately replicate the sound of the chambers at Capitol. The convolution technology used for these digital emulations is good enough to fool home recordists, but any experienced working professional engineer will tell you that there is nothing that can match the sound of a real chamber. Les Paul's contributions to the music and recording field have major cultural and historical significance to our nation and should be respected!
Eric MarinThe recording and motion picture industries are fundamental to the LA area. Condominium projects can be found anywhere but the Capitol Records Tower and its unique echoe chambers are only here. They should be fully preserved.
Shawn EuzebioI
Bruce DuffIsn't the Capitol Tower a historical landmark, and doesn't that already protect it. CIM Group is out of control as the primary land barons of Hollywood.
Garrett J. WysockiInsane! How could anyone propose such a hazardous project. What's next, fill in the La Brea Tar Pits?!?! Capitol Records' Studios and their Echo Chambers are Historic Monuments for LA and for America. Just listen to the records that were recorded there! After doing so then make a decision...
Martha J. SchultzThis impending loss would be a travesty not just to the recording arts, but also to one of Hollywood's cultural landmarks as well.
Wes MaebeDo Not Do This!
AnonymousThis is part of our history as well here in the UK the sound from Capitol is still one to allude to only equaled by other EMI studios such as Abbey Road. Such a unique sound needs to be protected a roster of all the guys and gals who have recorded there should make you stop and think about this one. Condos indeed......
Tazy SteinAs a fan of good music, I am happy to support this!
