Susan M. StraubPlease keep the HOF game in Cooperstown for a long long time to come. My husband and I will moving to Fly Creek within a year or so and the HOF game was actually part of the reason we want to move up there, along with all the fine things the area has to offer. It is an essential thread in the wonderful fabric of the Cooperstown history. Thanks. Susan Straub
James C. StraubPlease, please, keep the HOF game in Cooperstown with the MLB players, if not, possibly, recruit up and coming players from minor leagues teams. We can not let this tradition die off. What will next? Will the Induction Day eventually fade away when older inductees can no longer get there and younger guys won't care? James

AnonymousI think it is a terrible decision to never have another game in Cooperstown. I grew up in the area and witnessed the crowds it has brought and the joy it gave to many children and families to be able to see the players up close, get a ball autographed etc... I feel the game should have ALWAYS been a part of the players contracts that they had to play this game and part of the schedule automatically when the games are being planned out for the season.

AnonymousI feel very strongly that the ballgame should be played as it is tradition. Living near Cooperstown for many years, the devastation it would bring to the children and their families who come to see the players up close and get autographs etc... would be terrible ,as would the great damage to the economy it would cause.
AnonymousThis is utterly ridiculous. The players are way over paid. It's about time that baseball gave something back to the people that are fans....other than over inflated prices to attend their games.

Thomas RussoThe excuses given for ending this wonderful traditional game are nonsense. MLB has no problem scheduling exhibitions when there is money to be made, This is about greed, pure and simple, and it is one more black eye for the national pastime. Perhaps Baseball thinks that it doesn't need to be bothered with Cooperstown. What if the HOF held an induction and every store, restaurant, hotel and B&B were closed? You could hold your induction in a phone booth.
Jerri Dobler & Gerry WelchWe feel the players can give up their Day off to play for their fans at Doubleday Field. They would take the day off to be Inducted!

Frederick LupferBaseball is about tradition, and this is tradition!
AnonymousThis is an important part of the Cooperstown culture. This provides income for the local students by selling refreshments for the school trips. Think of the kids. They are our future. Change back to all one weekend if this is easier for the teams.
Kate Weaver
Joanne SeavyWhile MLB sells the nostalgic appeal of "old time" baseball via "classic" uniforms, new stadiums designed to look like those torn down decades ago, and "folksy" videos of the "good ole days" when it comes to giving people the actual experience of the way the game was once played in small venues----well where's the money in that?!
Susan King ElkanThe Hall of Fame and Museum stands in the middle of Main Street in Cooperstown. Over the years Cooperstownians and "this symbol" of American sport have woven a strong ,"symbiotic" existence...welcoming the ever -growing crowd of baseball fans. Generations of residents have committed tax dollars, prime real estate space, and endless volunteer time to make the annual game a special memory for generations of American families. Obviously, Major League Baseball "Just Doesn't Give A Damn."

Brian BrockLong before the League finally killed the Hall of Fame game, the owners had isolated it by separating it from all the Induction events and slowly starved it of appeal by gradually reducing the participation of first-string players. Simply restoring that faded tradition is not enough. Perhaps if the All Star game was brought to Doubleday Field. Of course it is the unchecked greed of both owners and players that have brought us to this sorry state, and moving the All Star game here would steeply reduce their revenues from this game. Nevertheless it could restore the Hall of Fame game to the glory of decades gone by.
Skip CarpentierContrary to what many believe; MLB needs Cooperstown and the Hall of Fame more than the opposite. The hall of fame maintains the history and preserves the game for the coming generations that will continue to enjoy and FUND the future players and teams
Kim BeckerDefinitely enough bad press in baseball. This is one of the good things that happens in baseball... something for the regular fan!
mark seavyPls. preserve the game

Jim CatesWay to many positives with this game to just discontinue a Great American tradition. Sometimes money and/or inconvenience need to be put aside to do the right thing for people of all ages.
Lori BarrPlease do not be responsible for ending these traditional and memorable events. Our kids are counting on you.

AnonymousIf this is about money, which I suspect it is, then baseball then professional baseball should be ashamed of it's self...I'ts a small price to pay for tradition
Jack BauerIf they made the HOF game count as a regular season game instead of exhibition, it would be good for not only the team owners and players, but it would also bring in a lot more fans who could actually see their favorite players in the game for more than one inning. There's a way out of this but MLB doesn't want to hear it!
Carolyn Hurley
Bob VearPlease keep tradition and have the games continue
Allan KasprzakUnbelievable. Multi-million dollar owners and multi-million dollar players are griping over taking a day out of their feedbag because they may have to travle to Cooperstown to at best play one inning? The sheer arrogance of professional sports has become a stain on all those who supposedly are not cherished enough to earn the big dollars tha we, like sheep, keep throiwing their way while so many people are having serious trouble paying their own bills and taking care of their families. It just boggles my mind that these purveyors of sport spit on those who fail to understand that we pay their salaries and they can't even come down for a few hours to honor the village of Cooperstown and those who play the game on all levels.
Emily WardHow sad! I'm not a big baseball fan, but I place great value in Tradition, and the Hall of Fame game is a great one! I attended many of those games when I was a kid, and I helped raise money for our senior class by working the stands with my friends. I can't imagine what will happen to Cooperstown without this wonderful tradition. Please, keep the game going!

John O'RourkeI agree wholeheartedly with this petition. Baseball is America's pasttime and is rooted in tradition. The reasons behind the removal of the Hall of Fame game appear to be that it doesn't fit in with the pace of the season ("It's too long to travel to and from Cooperstown for one game."). I think that keeping this game on the agenda will give 50 major league players a chance to see where they can be immortalized if they play a great career. It can be a humbling experience to those players that get too big for their britches.

AnonymousI believe in the value of the kinds of tradition represented by a national game being played year after year in the same place, a place that celebrates the game, the athletes, and the moments that unite us as we remember the athletic attainments and sportsmanship of the past.
