Comments: If it works well, why change it Give our kids the start they have been denied for many years. Whats the use of policy like Every Child Matters and good practice like Early Support if decisions like this are made with proper consultation with parents.

Comments: Headstart Nursery is absolutely vital to faciliate the transition into mainstream schooling for children with learning disabilities. Closing a nursery that provides this progression pathway goes against every principle of the valuing people ethos and promotes social exclusion rather than inclusion.

Comments: Miranda & Colin, I'm so glad you have set-up this petition as there are many families out there who are distressed about the closing of Headstart and no one in a position of authority has given any explanation. This cannot be allowed to happen and I hope that our local MPs Roger Gale and Steve Ladyman will soon add their support.

Comments: Too many schools for children with special needs are being closed in this day and age. Mainstream schools do not have the facilities or time to teach special needs children.

Comments: Please save the school..It is a very important facility for children who would not normally be able to cope in a mainstream school. It is also peace of mind for parents that their child is being taught and looked after by those who understand the extra requirements needed

Comments: There is not enough provision for intervention for children with learning difficulties. I work in a main stream school with attendance and behaviour problems but would struggle with learning needs aswell

Comments: i think the nursery provides a vital stepping stone into full time education. So therefore it would be catastrophe for it to close. I give my full support to this campaign to save the nursery.

Comments: I strongly disagree with the decision of KCC closing the Headstart Nursery as we have a child who was going to have a place there in September 2007. Also my eldest son benefited from Headstart when he was younger and I believe that without the help and support of the Headstart Nursery he wouldn't be where he is today.

Comments: The people who are responsible for the decision to close Headstart should be disgusted with themselves. At the very least, a formal consultation with parents/carers should have been held, not least for us to air our views but out of common decency!

Comments: My son was due to start at Headstart in the Autumn and we were informed of this desicion a couple of weeks ago. It is outrageous that this nursery should be closed to children like my son without any warning, discussion and worse without any other provision made. This will profoundly affect his development and opportunities, mainstream schools are simply unable to cope. Inclusion simply does work.
