The council finally dropped the plans to demolish our shops and we have officially won. I am drained from this fight but the relief of knowing these Victorian buildings are safe is worth every bit of the struggle. We need to stay alert to ensure they keep their word, but …

Save our shops and heritage from demolition

by signing our petition

Goldhawk Road shopkeepers in Shepherds Bush need your help tosave their businesses from demolition by the local council.

A row of Victorian shops, longestablished businesses are in jeopardy and you can help by signing our petition.

The local community are rallying behind our shopkeepers to stop the destruction of their thriving businesses.

The councilproposes to regenerate the Shepherds Bush Market and the library. However, the public consultationfailed to disclose thattwelveshops,30-52 Goldhawk Road, will be demolished tomake wayfor a 7 storey 250 unit private block of flats.

As soon as the information was published the local residents, market traders and shopkeepers immediately voiced their concerns. But instead ofthe council engaging with the local community, as they ought to have done with the public consultation, they went ahead and approved the plan forcing anyfurther objections to be made via the courts. Consequently the shopkeepers launched a strong legal challenge against the council’s plan and were awarded a Judicial Reviewby the Courts of Justice for later this year.

The Goldhawk Road shops and Shepherds Bush Market is the glue that holds our unique and diverse community together. They are one of the last bastions of working class heritage remaining inLondon.

Your signature of support is very much appreciated and valued.

Thank you and best wishes

We hit one thousand signatures today. It is exhausting to watch the council ignore us while we fight for these shops, but seeing this many people acknowledge our history gives me the resolve to keep going.

I was born in Chiswick, educated in Hammersmith and now live in Shepherds Bush. This stretch of shops are a vital part of my community. The Who ate at the famous Pie shop and the fabric shops and market provide goods not only to locals but to a huge national and international consumer group. We have enough 'luxury' properties already. Enough!

Why destroy part of our heritage and history for another block of flats? There must be numerous other places to build instead of demolishing thriving business premises...shame on the thoughtless councillors.

Please don't do this. Goldhawk Road is a wonderful place to do my fabric shopping. Don't rob these traders of their premises or their customers of all the convenience of having all the fabric shops on one road. Just don't do it!

Architecture like this is a key part of Britain's history and needs to be saved for future generations. Do not repeat the mistakes of the 1960's when historical buildings were replaced by concrete monstrosities.

Please Save Cooke's!!! It is one of a dying breed in London..... I grew up eating pie & mash from there. Just the mere wiff of the vinegar and liquor brings back warm fuzzy memories...

Please save the shops! Don't chase them out to the outskirts of London, they are part of what makes London great - fashion is a huge industry and feeding the creativity, whether for students or others, is crucial for why a lot of us flock to London. The Goldhawk road shops are a treasure.

We must preserve these old victorian shops which have been serving local people for decades. If they are demolished the area will become a wasteland
