Cancelling these routes devalues the monthly pass and is forcing riders back into their cars - NOT a green alternative. For example, if you work or study at YorkU you may take the train daily but take a bus home twice a week because of late classes or other events. You would then have to take VIva or your car instead. That means because GO killed your bus your monthly pass just got devalued by 20%! This is in addition to two years of 5% increases in fare costs (well over inflation). Worse, we are "offered" to replace the GO bus ride with a Viva ride. This costs additional fare already currently covered by our monthly passes but it also means a trip that is TWICE as long (90 minutes or more versus 45-50 minutes) to get home. Worse, for disabled or partly-disabled riders, taking Viva means they have to stand all the way and risk falling down and getting injured. NOBODY gives a seat to disabled passengers on Viva. Moreover, Viva buses routinely get stuck in winter snowstorms because Viva refuses to buy proper tires (like they did the first year). If you are a regular 62 or 64 rider - or you support there being a green commuting alternative - please sign the petition.
