Families for Resources and Early Access to Learning (REAL) is a vital program that provides school-based curriculum for parents and their children ages 0-5 years. This is a very important child service that teaches problem solving skills necessary to build healthy families as well as school readiness.
The Hawai'i Board of Education (BOE) and Hawai'i Department of Education (DOE) believe that Families for REAL "does not directly service the children of Hawai'i." Therefore, they plan to no longer fund this very important curriculum-based program. Families for REAL sites provide early learning curriculum and opportunities, which are mandated by Act 259. This decision jeopardizes the opportunities that will provide for the healthy development of our keiki.
We, the undersigned parents and community members, call upon our State Legislators, the BOE, the State Superintendent of Education, and the DOE to find solutions to continue the Families for REAL curriculum so that our children and families will not be left behind.
