Comments: Please do not close the doors our library. Our library has high circulation and very helpful librarians. One of the reasons we bought our house was because of the proximity to the library. I don’t accept many of your reasons for choosing to close the Fallston library. Including “age of building” - we are looking forward to our 25th anniversary. As for the accessible on foot - please know, I walk there often. Yes, there is low walk-in traffic but when was the last time you walked anywhere while running errands “Cost savings” - well really now “Dangerous vehicle access” - can’t we fix this “Close proximity” - you could also say the other locations have this same proximity to Fallston. And I’d like to see the computer usage stats because it seems there is always a crowd by the computers.

Comments: I believe that closing the Fallston branch would be a short-sighted and grave mistake on the part of the Harford County library system.

Comments: I believe that the Fallston Library Branch is an integral part of the Fallston community at large. Recently I have been there quite a bit and there are always a lot of people there, regardless the time of day or what day it is.

Comments: The Fallston library is an essential part of our community - we use it all the time for books, audio books, movies and computer access. It is conveniently located, recently renovated and staffed by skilled and friendly people. It is always enjoyable to spend an afternoon or evening perusing the books or movies. Please look for alternatives to closing the library - in tough times the most successful people find creative ways to save. I am sure that you will find plenty of ideas from the local community if you ask for their input.

Comments: My family and I are truly upset that such an proposal to close the Library will take place. My family (wife and three children uses this library weekly not only when school is in secession but throughout the summer. Having to drive to other facilities 20 mins one way (!!!!) to the next nearest library will discorage our use of the public library system. This library is a jewel to Fallston and a resourse that must remain. After all is that what I am paying my taxes for ...the community

Comments: I use the Fallston library all the time; the facilities are top notch and the staff is always helpful. Our son stops there whenever he comes home to visit from school in PA - he says that is it much better than any of the libraries around his school. It would be a shame to close it - please consider alternative means to reduce costs such as reduced hours or open days at several locations.

Comments: What a waste. After all the money recently spent to renovate, seems there should be a compromise of fewer hours of operation or more volunteer positions. My kids are grown now, but this library was an intergral part of their young lives and contributed greatly to their love of reading and learning.

Comments: I would like to voice my opinion on keeping the Fallston library open. I am a college student from Harford County who attends a university in Philadelphia. The public libraries of Harford County are outstanding in comparison to Philadelphia public libraries. The selection of fiction, magazines, and movies at even the smallest Harford County branch is better than the selection at the Main Library in Philadelphia and is worlds better than their satellite branches in other parts of the city. Also, computer usage is restricted to 30 minutes and you often have to sign up for access. It is always a relief when I come back to Harford County when I can use the much better library facilities. I always enjoy spending an afternoon in the library catching up on the latest magazines. When I leave, I bring a stockpile of magazines, books, and a few movies home with me to continue reading and watching for the rest of my stay. The Fallston branch is in an excellent location for me as I live on Friendship Lane so I am able to walk there in no time, doing my little part to save the environment as well as get some exercise in. Crossing the street safely has never been an issue to me as sight lines are excellent going in both directions and I wait for a safe time to cross. The library also has internet access which my parents do no have so it allows me to check my email and go online when I am home which is extremely helpful to check/pay bills and do schoolwork. We should be thankful that our library system is the best that I know of and we should strive to keep them all funded.

Comments: I work in the Daycare next to the library and it is a wonderful resouce for us. Not only do we get our books for the children, we participate in many of the programs that are offered. Our children are with us most of the day and their parents are usually unable to take them to these programs. In addtion to our children, I see many children from the local schools in the Fallston Library completeing projects, doing research and just meeting with friends. It is a perfect location to make a run in on the way home from school or work to do these things. It would be a shame to take this valuable resource away from the residents of the Fallston community!

Comments: I wish that the Fallston Library remain open. Although it is not a brand new branch, it has a faithful following. It is truly a community resource. It is not convenient for this communiyt to drive to the other branches-the libary is situated close to our local schools. The argument that it is not accessible on foot is silly for this more rural community-very little in this community is accessible by foot. Many people in the communiyty also own their own computers. We do not necessarily go to the library to use the computers. Even when the branch does not have a specific book or resource we need, we can arrange for it through inter-library loan or the reserve list. We do not want a vacant building sitting in the middle of our community.
