Name: Michael Brundage on Apr 20, 2010Comments: I oppose any plans to remove/convert more open, natural land in the Ellings South park area to "active" recreational uses( bike racing, bleachers, lights, etc.). In addition, I think the existing bike trails should be re graded to conforming size and shape. If the users will not be responsible for using them as intended, then bikes should be restricted to the road portions only of the park. It is not possible to 'share' these bike trails between hikers and bikers. The bikes go too fast and that is their intention and the inherent fun in the activity. I understand the thrill, however the two activities are clearly not compatible on the same steep trails. The bikes dominate the physical and if I may say "spiritual" sense of the place. Hiking on the trails and biking on the road may be the best and only solution in this small open space park.Flag
