| 2361 | Alicja | As much as I love SG1's Sam Carter, and recognize how well Ms Tapping has fulfilled role she was assigned on Atlantis, I could never forget the spectacular Torri Higginson and the character she has co-created. Rather than removing Elizabeth Weir from the show, she should have been given more opportunities to truly shine - between the character's vast potential and the fantastic work of the actress, cutting Weir out of the show was, in my book, the wrong decision. Weir is the pacifist, the voice of reason, the diplomat, the neutral force in internal disputes, the mother figure, the leader, and at times the unwilling warrior - and she should remain in Atlantis for all those reasons and more.
While Ms Tapping getting the resulting screen time was semi-understandable (loyalty and all, plus shaking things up), in the end apparently Robert Picardo (whom I admire from back in ST:Voyager, but whose character in SGA is far less interesting and engaging) will be taking over, and that, in my opinion, is just short of ridiculous.
It isn't about which actor is better (I refuse to comment on this), it's about which character is stronger, better defined and works better with SGA as a whole.
Elizabeth Weir is that character.
Please bring her back. |

However I just have no interest in watching Atlantis as long she's not present, she simply grounded the series in a way neither of her replacements ever has or will.
One of the main reasons for me to watch the series was the interaction in between Sheppard and Weir (which there wasn't enough of), the actors either are both great actors (which they are) or they have chemistry as some people seem to have.
Atlantis is not worth it for me to watch without Weir, no Weir no Atlantis.
And I'd say the series will die within a season or two without her. |

Weir is gone from the story now... but I still have faith that Torri will come to her senses and re-sign for season 6, assuming there is a season 6, which, i think, would be unlikely, since the ratings WILL drop.
