Name: Jarrett Gentile on Apr 13, 2009Comments: I was involved in the music program from when I started 4th grade to when I graduated high school. It was a major part of my pre-college schooling and something that has shaped me personally with the interests I currently involve myself. Please keep the music program as it is.Flag

Name: Kevin Ou on May 4, 2009Comments: Being able to play in CV Music throughout my Canyon Middle and CVHS days played a significant role in my development and maturity as an individual and musician. I was both a violinist and pianist who grew up in the CVUSD. After performing in the Middle and HS orchestras, I have gone on to play with the UCLA Philharmonic, formed the Holloway String Quartet, and continually performed through the Los Angeles area in different venues. I would not be the same person or musician as I am today without the educators in place to guide me and my fellow classmates. Please save the music programs in CV and continue the legacy of educating great musicians.Flag

Name: Hong Tran on May 19, 2009Comments: Music Department was cut by 25%. By moving another Full Time Equivalent to Categorical Funds, the board potentially will cut another 25% of the remaining teaching staff. This is way out of proportion with the overall budget cut to other programs. Music Teachers’ expenditures are among the most effective usage of dollars per student ratio. This wholesale cut to the music program and the 7th period at the high school is devastating to Castro Valley students and community. The district got 2.3 million dollars from the Stimulus Funds in May. Surely, the administration can bring back our laid off music teachers and give the high school back the 7th period so the music teachers can physically teach these classes at decent hour. Please have mercy on our students. Don’t make them perform at school events such as football games until 10:00 PM. and have to show up for classes at 7:00 am everyday.Flag

Name: Jennifer Kline on Oct 7, 2009Comments: Castro valley Schools are so special, one reason is the quality programs they offer to the students and to the community. Music is a big part of that, whether it is vocal or instrumental. It is a shame that the state government has made so many cuts to education. Unfortunately CVUSD has to make cuts somewhere. Hopefully music will not be hit too hard.Flag

Name: Krista Richey on Oct 11, 2010Comments: my children have benefited from music program and it is PROVEN that music actually increases learning in other areas. Not to mention that it is the only thing my high school student has, as a new student in this district, to fall back on, find a common interest and a REASON he goes to school each day!Flag
