I, the undersigned, am very concerned about the survival of Oregon’s coastal communities and wild salmon heritage.
The west coast commercial and recreational salmon fishing industry has lost 72,000 family wage jobs over the last 20 years. And scientists have recorded a 50 percent decline in adult Oregon coho in just the past three years.
The state of Oregon’s voluntary recovery efforts are not enough to restore the coho salmon and protect the future of our fishing communities.
I am requesting formal Endangered Species Act protection for the coho salmon today, so that Oregon’s voluntary recovery efforts have a chance to succeed!
Protecting coho salmon now is how we can guarantee the future survival of the coho and restore Oregon’s coastal and river communities that depend on them.
[Pacific Rivers Council will present the petition to the Bush Administration, the State of Oregon, and other relevant decision-makers.]
