innes ayling | I spent a great day there when i was younger and now would like to take my own children
Mrs Melanie Humberstone-Garley | My husband Bob and I were shocked to hear the news about the Cogges potential closure. It fills us both with anger and dissappointment that this has even been considered! Why can't we leave this beautiful historic site as it is for the enjoyment and education that it gives, along with it's surrounding that help to make Witney the beautiful market town that we all love. If "progress" continues Witney will become like Abington, just one big housing estate.
Ann McCormack | Cogges Farm Museum is a much loved and appreciated feature of our lives. All our children and grandchildren have been taken to enjoy it countless times and have learned so much about our social history as a result.
Philip McCormack | Cogges Farm Museum is a splendid resource of history and education for present and future generations of youngsters. We and our own grandchildren have learned and enjoyed much from frequent visits.
Anonymous | Please save Cogges Farm Museum. It is a wonderful place for all the residents of Oxfordshire and their children. We all love Cogges Farm and we don't want it to close.
Anonymous | I wish people would have a vision and remember how many times we as wider community have already regretted the loss of history...
Wendy Wastie |
Edward Coker | too valuable to lose! I DO NOT want another crowd of houses in this lovely area.

| 361 | Christopher Michael | Cogges is an amazing example of an uncommercial, genuinely family friendly, edcuational and fun place to spend the day. We go usually twice a year!
Rather than closing this wonderful place, why not acknowledge that Cogges could be massively improved WITHOUT losing any of its authenticity or charm. |
Richard Williams | Stop the stupid penny pinching.
Pat Williams | Will there be any of Witney's past left for our children to learn about?
Lesley Brown | PLEASE do not replace this lovely area with yet more closely packed houses
janis barrett | Cogges is a magical place. The failure of Cogges is the failure of imagination.
Carole Kemp |
D. English | My family and I over the years have visited Cogges Farm many time and enjoyed each visit, even though the kids are older my wife and I make an annual visit to Cogges, it is an oasis of calm and a credit to everyone associated with it.
D. English | My family and I over the years have visited Cogges Farm many time and enjoyed each visit, even though the kids are older my wife and I make an annual visit to Cogges, it is an oasis of calm and a credit to everyone associated with it.
Jenny Proffitt | I couldn't believe it when I heard the plans. Yet another historical site, like Earlys, which will disappear forever. Housing development in Witney is getting out of hand as it is but to lose this site would just be criminal. There must be a way that it can be saved.
Mr A & Mrs J Petersons | Cogges Manor Farm is to valuable an asset for the local community to lose. Lets find some private backing with help from the lottery fund and perhaps some local funding to help improve and save Cogges now and for future generations.
Lee Thornett | Cogges is a big part of the local community and it will be a huge loss if it is forced to close.
Rachel Coombs |
Mark Bishop |
Fiona Bateman | My two children love visiting the museum. It would be very sad if we were to lose this wonderful part of Witney's history.
Janet Ashby | Witney would have nothing left for families to go to apart from the leisure centre. Cogges farm is an asset to the local community.
lisa middlemiss | I have spent lovely times at this museum and would like the oppertunity to take my children there.
Kerry Forkner | Cogges Farm Museum is a valuable historic site as well as a superb facility for the community and the surrounding schools, many of whose pupils have had valuable life experiences during their visits. It also provides a breathing space between the community of Cogges and the growing sprawl of Witney town. This type of breathing space is vitally important in the increasing urbanisation of the countryside and cannot be allowed to disappear.
Katy Wilson | We can't lose this valuable piece of local history.
Anonymous | Please keep the cogges farm museum open this is an important piece of heritage and an invaluable asset to the whole community both young and old
Ian Thompson | This is typical local council stupidity. It is about housing as £250k a year is less than a couple senior bureacrats salaries.
Lisa Dunkley |
Mrs Lisa Holliday | This valuable piece of our heritage cannot be allowed to close just because of money!!!
Graham Soame | Astounded to hear that the cultural/historical jewel that is Cogges should be under threat. Can nobody see the various ways to up the finances? Such as "friends of Cogges" - £25 per person per year would gross £10,000 from 400, £50,000 from 2,00 people and so on, and for what? Two newsletters a year and a feeling of giving valued support. Other ideas, Cogges Cards, other memorabilia but better marketed throughout the area not just Cogges, sponsorship support from commercial bodies nearby (Do we care if Peter the Pig has a sign "sponsoered by J. Smith Builders"? I don't think so! Get a commercially minded business Csar in quick, this place should be making a mint! P.S. I used to be part of a historical re-enactm,ent, and can think of many friends who would give their time for the occasional weekend in costume - all adds to the character without breaking the bank. Come on make Cogges safe for a children!

Rev Joyce Yendole | I and my family lived in Witney for 20 years, and were thrilled when the Cogges Farm Museum opened. My daughter grew up with it, our visitors from this country and abroad were impressed with it, I even dressed up and made lace there one day! It would be a crying shame for this resource to be lost, not just for the people of Witney and the surrounding towns and villages, but also for the many people from further afield who make a bee-line for it whenever they are in the area! I do so hope that it can be saved. Its presence enriches the life of all those who value our heritage, especially the insights in gives into the history of the locality, its people, its farming and its life. PLEASE SAVE IT!!!
Mark Conway | This would be a rdiculously short sighted closure at a time when our children need more out of classroom learning experiences and our rapidly growing town needs to keep hold of its inner most green spaces for environmental and quality of life reasons. If we charged people 30p per hour to park in Witney's municipal car parks this woudl be more than enough to keep this fantastic resource and fantastic open space out of teh hands of the developpers.
Donald Schofield | Cogges Farm is an exceptional historic site of considerable interest to us and all our friends and relations who come to visit us in Witney. We rejoice to see the large numbers of schoolchildren enjoying educational visits there. It is a community centre in itself with plenty of possibilities. We should grieve to lose not only the farm but any of the attractive green site on and around it. To sell it for other uses would be a great mistake and tarnish the name of the County Council for years to come. Don't let future generations down!
Maureen Coombs | Cogges is a unique place. My daughters and now my grandson have all enjoyed many happy hours at the museum. I have also accompanied many school parties to the museum to learn and experience what life was like and to see the farm animals. It is a gem and a real asset to Witney and Oxfordshire as a whole. I believe it will be a great loss to the local community and surrounding areas if it was forced to close due to lack of funding. Instead we need new intiatives to enable it to become financially viable so that it will continue to provide education and entertainment for our children and grandchildren long into the 21st century.
The Rose Family | Please don't shut Cogges, it's a vital resource!
Margaret Bruce |
Annette Duffell | The farm was a regular visit for us when our children were young. It was perfect for them, not overly big or commercial.A real joy and hidden gem in Witney. We love it so please let it stay.
Angela Irvin | Cogges Farm is a great resource for children in Oxfordshire. My children have really enjoyed their visits.
Tom and Margaret Jones | Cogges is a superb living museum of an era now beyond living memory. It is well set out and a real pleasure to visit for all ages. It also has potential for further development as a performance venue, which could generate income and benefit local organisations and the community in general. It must not be allowed to close.
Linda Marshall | Cogges is a wonderful museum, that provides us with an insight to the past. It would be a travesty to close it and to build yet more houses, especially when Witney's infrastructure is struggling as it is.
Janet Cuthill | This is a part of the rural heritage of Witney and should remain for future generations.
Jim Bruce | There are few enough family day's out as it is. Keep Cogges open - as they say, you never miss something until it's gone!
Anonymous | Cogges Manor Farm Museum is much too important to be allowed to close. It must be preserved
