Name: Richard Nicol on Jan 13, 2009Comments: We as a family use this facility a great deal I feel that this facility is important not only as a fitness venue but also as a social venue for the village. I find it hard to comprehend that this may even be a possibility. The out door pool was sold for developmentand the council had the money from that. The council have spent alot on building the pool and now they claim that they cannot afford to keep it going. In the years leading up to the olymics you would think that fitness was something to encourage, swimmimg is an excellent sport for all. Please dont be prats , keep the pool open. Thank You Richard Nicol.Flag

Name: Nicola Sentance on Jan 13, 2009Comments: I learnt to swim in this pool, I had lessons here with school, I came here with my friends, I took part in exercise classes here for fun, and for my health, I watched as galas took place, I was a sponsored swimmer to raise money for charities here. All of these things should NOT be written in the past tense, they need to continue. This pool means SO much to the people of the Cheddar Valley, it is one of few that has disabled access, which is a factor that makes the Cheddar pool so much more beneficial to the entire community. Building a new swimming pool in Bridgwater is futile. People in Bridgwater use the Cheddar pool anyway, and the appeal of Cheddar Leisure Centre is that it houses a pool as well as so many other facilities. The pool is suitable for SO many events, there is family swimming, lessons for all ages, exercise classes, 50+ classes, lane swimming, galas, school P.E. lessons, scuba diving, and it hosts the training for the mendip triathalon club. This is extremely important because it allows young people to take an interest in sporting events, and encourages them to be physically fit and healthy. Also, there is lifeguarding training, and you really cannot put a value on that. I can hardly see that ALL of these amazing facilities are going to be available at another centre, and certainly not of the same standard. I urge you to consider the implications of what you are suggesting; for the pool to close would have a devastating effect on the entire community. CHEDDAR NEEDS ITS POOL.Flag

Name: Mrs Jennifer Davies on Jan 13, 2009Comments: I think that it is absolutely disgusting that this could happen. How dare they think they can do this to us in Cheddar. Many people rely on being able to use this pool as they have no transport of their own and public transport is too expensive for them to be able to use it. Do not close our pool.Flag

It provides important non-impact fitness for old and young a like who would find travelling large distances to another pool difficult.Flag
