We, the undersigned, feel strongly that the Community Education Lewisham adult education sites NEED THEIR CRÈCHE. All the crèche are faced with closure in July which means that anyone with children under five will have to find alternative childcare. This is bound to impact on the amount of people choosing to study with CEL. At the moment, the crèche provide affordable, safe, stimulating enviroments for the children of users of the centres. We are able to learn, safe in the knowledge that our children are within easy reach if there is a problem. Please do not take this valuable, long-standing service away from the people of Lewisham.

Laura Carter, United Kingdom5 years ago Comments: I am so upset that the closures are a foregone conclusion. I have known some of the women who work in the crèche for over 10 years. They enabled me to train as a masseuse when my boys were babys. I have since gone on to volunteer my services at Carers Lewisham and the Ackroyd centre over 55s project. I am happy that I am able to contribute to my community. I was still breast-feeding my youngest son when I first accessed the creche at Brockley Rise and the lovely women were completely supportive of my choice, they used to come and get me if he needed a feed or was upset. This would not have been possible if he had been with a child minder off site. My third child is now using the creche at Brockley Rise adult ed. centre and it was a lovely surprise to find some familiar faces there who remembered her big brothers. I would like to thank all the creche staff for their kindness, good humour and creativity over the years. I am so sorry that this is happening .
