Comments: Access to information is an important step towards open and accountable government. It disappoints me that an administration which claims to support open government is retreating from this objective.

Comments: I am appalled. How could Stephen Harper even attempt to justify this by saying it is a cost-cutting measure The cost of updating CAIRS is a drop in the bucket compared to other government expenditures. Anyone can see that Mr. Harper is just trying, once again, to control information for his own purposes. The Conservatives promised that they would make our federal government more accountable and transparent - instead, they are doing just the opposite. This is an outrage!

Comments: I am appalled to learn that the government has killed the Co-ordinated Access to Information Requests system. It is absolutely essential for our democracy that this system be maintained and that government must remain accountable for its acts and decisions. Let's keep Canada open to Canadians! We do not need to hide what we are, what we believe in, or, presumably, what government has done in our name. Maintain openness and honesty for Canadians!

This is the "thin-edge-of-the-wedge" of Fascism and the Canadian people will never tolerate such an abuse of power.

Comments: As a university student, I feel that suppression of information is wrong. Not only is CAIRS a tool for us in regards to data gathering, but as young adults, this only impresses upon us that the current party and government does not want to be transparent and is moving towards the American system of censorship.

The assistance of the elector wishing information is therefore essential. If this government wishes to impair the access to information it is proof positive of their anti-democratic principles and shameful to the claim of being open, transparent, and democratic.
