Name: Matthew Failor on Apr 29, 2007Comments: I am a graduating senior at The Ohio State University, and I am also an Eagle Scout through Troop 121. I value the rank of Eagle higher than my college education. There are things that scouting taught me that the classroom could not. Without Camp Avery Hand, this could not have been possible. I OWE a great deal to Camp Avery Hand. Local places like Camp Avery Hand are needed in todays time. This would be a huge mistake to let this educational tool go.Flag

Name: Kenneth J. Kulka on Apr 29, 2007Comments: As an Eagle Scout who benefitted greatly from my time both as a scout and staff member of Camp Avery Hand I am appalled that this beautiful land is being considered for sale or closure. As a 5 year Philmont staff member I have seen thousands of young people gather memories that last the rest of their lives from time spent at quality camp facilities. These fond memories are often responsible for young people becoming better human beings. This is the mission of the BSA is it not All efforts should be made to preserve this camp and the formation of our young people into the citizens that the BSA strives to help form. Kenneth J. It was a vital part of his scouting experience. He enjoyed and treasured every minute of it, and we were very pleased with the experiences he had there.Flag

Name: Anonymous on May 4, 2007Comments: As an Eagle Scout and a resident of Norwalk, I think it is a shame that the closing of Camp Avery Hand is even considered. The Heart of Ohio district is unique in that is has the privilege of utilizing two camps, those being Avery Hand and Firelands. Do not take Avery Hand away; many great memories have been made there in the past and many more can be made for future generations of Scouts.Flag

Name: Larry Von Blon on May 4, 2007Comments: My son is currently a member of Troop 126 in Bellville. We will have to travel outside the council now that summer camp will not be held at Camp Avery Hand. I feel as though the Council has deserted the entire southern portion of the geographic area of the council in favor of the more populated northern areas. First Camp Wyandot and now Avery Hand.Flag

Since those days spent with my father, I have dreamed of the days I could spend with my son at the camp. Please do not take this part of our community that has shaped so many boys into men over the years.Flag
