Without the great tips and additional wage, I probably would have been in even more finanacial stress than I was at the time! Brothers provided many great times for me and my friends and hopefully it can remain somewhere in Madison! Jake MittenFlag

The character of old buildings is what makes Madison unique. Maybe invest the money in updating current arts centers. Or use the money to lower tuition!!!Flag

Name: Scott Severson on Dec 16, 2009Comments: When a business is involved, the "right" thing to do is compensate the business owner for expenses associated with relocating the business. As a UW Alumnus, this situation leaves me saddened that an institution that I admired for so long can act in such an unfair manner.Flag

Name: Kyle Maichle on Dec 16, 2009Comments: I am a 2008 UW-Madison alum, and what Brother's is going through is nothing but corrupt New Jersey-style eminent domain abuse. Brother's has been a part of the campus nightlife and many great memories were made. The UW system should not abuse eminent domain for the purpose of advancing their agenda. The UW plays a vital role for our state, but if we do not put checks and balances like controlling eminent domain abuse then we will see more State Street bars and restaurants get thrown on the street at the expense of satisfying political bosses. By signing this petition, I am sending a message that we need to get the politics out on which bars should be on campus.Flag

Name: Erich M. Roush on Dec 16, 2009Comments: This is a clear abuse by the UW to overstep the Brother's business deal with the previous owners. Why the UW Regents feel that it is okay to rescind the relocation agreement is beyond me. This is not a fair deal, and it sets a bad precedent for other businesses surrounding the university. Who will want to invest in this area, when the University can take it all away whenever they want, for whatever price they want?Flag

Name: Mark Bernadot on Dec 16, 2009Comments: I used to manage this great bar in Madison, and at the end of my tenure there, I feel like I could have pulled off a Jay Leno type of ending by introducing marriages, and children that were made and created amongst all of the relationships that were built there, including myself as one of those people! I met my wife there, and I have three girls at home!! I have a friend of mine that is a Captain in the marine corp. that would come back to the U.S. from Iraq, and his favorite place in the WORLD, was at the corner of the bar at BROTHERS, because he always felt at home there, and knew he would find his friends there. The minute he got back on US soil, he came directly to Brothers, even before his parents house, so he could see his friends again. He is also an alumni of UW. Aside from all of that, we had, as far as I was concerned, one of the best locations in Madison for a business. Everyone always talks about State Street, which is great, but the traffic and student exposure that we had on one of the busiest streets in the city, was unbeatable. You cant buy the amount of advertising that we had when thousands of cars would drive by at night, and we would have a line outside the bar. It spoke volumes of our bar, especially when every other bar was not busy. I, remember every time Marc and Eric would come to the bar and talk about what was going on, and they hated to have to face the fact that they were going to have to possibly move. They just wanted to stay where they were, and operate one of the most successfully operated bars in downtown Madison. THEY DESERVE BETTER TREATMENT AND RESPECT AS VIABLE AND RESPECTABLE BUSINESS OWNERS IN THAT AREA. .... TO KICK THEM OUT OF THAT LOCATION, OR NOT RELOCATE THEM WOULD BE CRIMINAL, AND VERY IMMORAL. The number of employees that I personally have hired and those that have 'lived' their student careers at Brothers, is in the hundreds, many of which have become successful members of society around the country, that may not even know about what is going on right now. My family lives in the same city that Marc and Eric started their first bar, LaCrosse. I went on to own my own business there. I respectfully left their Madison location, to pursue my own dreams. I cant imagine visiting Madison without going to my favorite bar in town.Flag

It provides a comfortable and safe atmosphere for students to enjoy socializing with both new and old friends. Removing this bar would be taking away a cherished institution and depriving future students from the past times so so many of us already hold dear.Flag
