This brings custom to the Post Office from all along the valley and means the Post Office should continue to thrive. Everyone should be concerned about cutting down our carbon "footprints" if our planet is to survive for succeeding generations, so forcing us to drive many extra miles to a Post Office is a very short-sighted policy. |

The Village lies in the middle of the Chalke Valley with a very restricted bus service to Salisbury or Shaftesbury, both long journeys. This shop with post office is the lifeblood of this valley of 5 villages, none of which has shop/PO facilities because of previous closures. The residents without transport will suffer genuine hardship and distress. |

The village shop is the only one left in this part of the Chalke Valley and will be adversely affected by the post office closing. We will then lose a valuable point of contact for the surrournding area as notices are viewed here, tickets for local events are sold, and friends meet up as well as doing their shopping etc. The nearest alternatives are 6d Handley and Fovant, neither of which are on a bus route, so the many elderly and non-drivers who rely on the Post Office at the moment will suffer. We cannot allow this closure, just to suit post office statistics. The school has expanded hugely recently, and people come to it from miles around, but if this becomes village with no facilities, this could easily put people off continuing to do so. Rural life is under threat from the government, so the Post Office should not join in this attack. Rural life and facilities matter! |

Surely this would cost exactly the same amount to run as the Outreach (if not much less due to the outreach operatives petrol) and also save the Post Office the expense of any physical change to the premises & associated changeover costs.
