Name: Kevin West on Mar 17, 2007Comments: Time to listen Bradford Council and BURC. The citizens of this city do not want to lose this magnificent old building. LEAVE IT STANDING. Find an alternative use for it, in fact turn it into a world class entertainment centre. No use building all these city centre appartments if there's nothing to do!Flag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 18, 2007Comments: This venue could do for Bradford what The Corn Exchange did for leeds and Afflecks palace did for Manchester. I would go to concerts there, I would eat food from there, I would shop there, I would book conference rooms there. This building would be a perfect host of our cities diversity. Imagine a food hall with independent traders selling different foods from Ukraine to Morroco. It could host a farmers market, small independent designers selling goods and be a great music venue.Flag

Name: Janet Walker on Mar 19, 2007Comments: As a Bradfordian living in Hong Kong & working with many conservation groups, I am saddened that we in the west have no appreciaiton of our own history and culture- why do some people feel that the way forward is paved with concrete, so all cities look the same Shame on Bradford if this is allowed to happen!Flag

Name: Philip Briggs on Mar 19, 2007Comments: Save the odeon. Its a shame to destroy such an old building with character and style and put up market flats to suit the rich lifestyles and not those that have lived in Bradford for years. Just look whats happened to Leeds!Flag

Name: Hilary Du Cros on Mar 19, 2007Comments: Retaining places connected with the generation of contemporary pop and rock is as important as that for other performing arts. For instance, Melbourne in Australia now has special urban zoning controls that protect local pubs and theatres that have nourished the Australian rock music scene for years.Flag

Name: Peter Excell on Mar 19, 2007Comments: The plans for Bradford city centre are poorly conceived and are being pushed through via rigged 'polls'. It needs to be given much more freedom to develop organically and not populated with putative 'iconic' buildings. Above all, it has no chance of success if the rail link between Interchange and Forster Square is not constructed.Flag

Name: David Stavenau on Mar 19, 2007Comments: I have seen photographic evidence of the Bradford Odeon building being in much better condition than we have been led to believe. This building is architecturally and aesthetically beautiful with a rich history. There is no common sense or logic in spending millions of pounds to destroy it and construct a new inappropriate building in its place. Take the millions of pounds and restore the Odeon - use the fact it was once a ballroom (the plaster and gilt-work still intact) and create a venue that retains some of the majesty and rich cultural history that typified the original building - make the site something that Bradford citizens would be proud of.Flag

Name: M.E.Woodward on Mar 19, 2007Comments: The proposed demolition and replacement of the Bradford Odeon must surely be seen as ridiculous by anyone who has any concern whatsoever for the long term future of the city. Archtecturally, it is a wonderful building with its "twin towers" perfectly complementing the similar domes of the adjacent Alhambra. Please, please rennovate and refurbish it as an entertainment complex and concert hall so this again complements the functional properties of the Ahambra and keeps these two great buildings in unison, providing the whole spectrum of popular entertainment and the arts where they should be, at the heart of the city.Flag

Name: Leigh Green on Mar 19, 2007Comments: This is extremely disappointing to learn that a building with such beauty has to be demolished to make way for housing. Whats the point in moving to a city where all the beauty has been removed. Bradford is becoming a dead city and more and more consuming are turning away from Bradford as their place of custom. Stop this atrocity happening and use the money to make it into a place where people are want to go.Flag

Name: David Robison on Mar 19, 2007Comments: There is more than one kind of regeneration - the kind that replaces beautiful buildings with soulless glass fronted pretentious monstrosities which alienate the local population --- then there's another kind of regeneration, which might involve the loving restoration of wonderful architecture for a modern age.... Bradford Council has obviously gone for the former, I think it's absolutely criminal that they could even consider tearing that building down - it shows how far their mindsets are from the local population.Flag
