Name: Ian Grey on Mar 12, 2007Comments: Buildings shouldn't be demolished just because they are currently out of favour &/or in the way of grandiose schemes the main motivation of which is to leave a legacy that will probably not stand the test of time. I was looking through the Sunday papers and it occurred to me that far too many shows were not touching West Yorkshire, both large and small. Leeds needs an Arena, but we also need a 2000+ seater with an adequate stage as a versatile touring venue that is something St Georges Hall is not. With imagination, flair, the will and a lot of money, the Odeon could become that venue in a scheme that sympathetically restored and enhanced the space. Regrettably, there is an awful lot of concrete to have to sledgehammer out. The suggestion that the site could only accommodate 675 people is ridiculous- Bridgewater Hall in Manchester has a smaller plot.Flag

Name: Karen Whitaker on Mar 13, 2007Comments: How much would it cost to buy this cinema, because I for one would be delighted to purchase it and get it up and running as a cinema again. There are hundreds of sites suitable for building flats and offices. This is what I do for a living, but I do not knock down beautiful buildings in order to do it.Flag

Name: Rosanna Shepley on Mar 13, 2007Comments: Why do people not learn from the past. Modern buildings look fantastic for 30 years and then have to be pulled down again. Bradford should learn a lesson from places like York where building of value have been allowed to remain. Just look at the tatty mess that used to be the bottom end of town. The odeon should be lovingly restored, the beautiful large rooms leave many options for purpose. STOP KNOCKING THE GOOD STUFF DOWN.........PRETTY PLEASE. xxFlag

Name: Anonymous on Mar 13, 2007Comments: I am so tired of the invisable people making decissions for BRADFORD with out even asking us ( meaning Bradfordians) what we want, we have been down this so called road of progress before in the early 1960's when someone made the decission to get rid of all the buildings at the bottom of town on tyrell street , even that beautiful victorian toilet.. we once had .. dont get me started on the old kirkgate market, i have never understood why we cannot be more like LEEDS and have respect for the beautiful stone buildings we have and restore them to there former glory. LETS HOPE SOMEBODY SEES SENSE . who's forgotton when the Beatles and the Rolling Stones with countless others that entertained us at the Gaumount that became the Odeon Cinema so YES let us keep and return this building to its former gloryFlag

Name: Daz Page on Mar 13, 2007Comments: This is just a cynical ploy by certain council officials and elected politicians to have their name on a changed Bradford. Well Bradford belongs to its people, not a select few. I'm fed up of my home being bought and sold by people who couldn't care less about it or us!Flag

Name: Martin on Mar 14, 2007Comments: identity comes from what is around us as much as what is inside. Imagine what pulling down the statue of liberty would do to americans. Our identity is tied up in that building. what braford council dont seem to understand, and can never value with a caculator, is the worth of that beauty to our identity. In the end that is what will bring people here, and makes those that are already here happy. of course.....I'm sure its the compensation and red tape culture that is really to blame....but for god sake! I wish they would grow a backbone and fight it.Flag

Name: Andrew Kniveton on Mar 14, 2007Comments: its a part of bradford many of us have grown up with, i think the pictures are enough evidence to prove that the building contains enough potential for any investor. surely it would be more cost effective and environmentally friendly to renovate or modify the current building. developing the city is magnificent but some of its past should be preserved!Flag

Name: Tez Burke on Mar 14, 2007Comments: The Odeon coul quite easily be transformed into the concert hall that Bradford has been crying out for. It's far more structurally sound than the likes of Maud Marshall would have you believe, and the acoustics inside are magnificent. Keep the Odeon in place; it will be of far more benefit to Bradford than Alsop's slimy concrete pond!Flag

Name: Christopher Tracey on Mar 15, 2007Comments: Like many of Bradford's citizens, I've seen the plans for the city centre's 'regeneration' and think they are preposterous. Nobody who actually lives in Bradford likes the plans, and the demolition of the odeon is one of the worst ideas in them. It costs more money to renovate old buildings than it does to build crappy new glass ones... but given the choice I don't doubt that 99% of Bradford's population would rather see ALL the regeneration money go into this one building. You can't hope to rival a city like Leeds by demolishing beautiful old buildings and replacing them with GLASS FUNNELS!!!Flag
