Bora Bora has been closed and DJ Gee moved on to pastures new as a result of the local council enforcing strict licensing laws. Bora Bora represented the very essence of Ibiza and is one of a seven bars affected by these restrictions. Ibiza wants to become a playground for only the rich and famous, and with the help of the bigger corporations, sets out to achieve this by closing down the smaller venues which were a place for what they see as 'low grade clubbers' who in their eyes can't afford the elevated ticket and drinks prices of the larger clubs. Us 'low grade clubbers' have lined the pockets of the very people threatening to destroy what kept us coming back to Ibiza year after year, the freedom and hedonism it represented, wthout us they would not be in this position of power now. Why are they not enforcing safety aspects to the larger clubs such as providing free, clean drinking water? Why? Because it all comes down to money.
Whether they realise it or not, Ibiza's economy depends on young holidaymakers who are drawn there for the nightlife, it will never be the Monte Carlo they desire. If we can prove to them by signing this petition how many of us have a voice, they may be forced to change their minds. |
