Name: John Buchanan on Mar 8, 2009Comments: Befor the last depression my family entertained guests on their farms. People from New York City came up to enjoy the country for days at a time. This tourism carried the local economy almost untill the Sullivan County Community College opened and then the hotels were in full swing. This campground is part of our heritage, economy and pride. The dollar amounts I have seen do not justify closing this productive source of revenue that the campground represents. And these dollar amounts show profit even in the two most difficult recent years. People come from Japan to fish here. There is a national museum relating to fishing nearby. People use the campground as an economical base to support ot only fishing but golf. Local equipment retailers rely on the business contingent on the campgrounds. For these reasons it makes no sense to close what has been historic reliable income for Sullivan County. Please do not allow this campground to close.Flag

On Saturday March 7th, community leaders from Sullivan County packed the Catskill Arts Society and agreed to fight the closing of the campground and agreed to write letters, set up meetings and to push this internet petition. We hope that this unified community action will remind you that the value of the campground for tourism in this region is far exceeds the fees and costs to actually manage the campground. The Sullivan County Tourism office estimates that the campground brings in over $750,000 a year to region.Flag

Name: Kurt L Nelson on Mar 8, 2009Comments: I have stayed at this camp many times over the last 25 years, although I camp at another spot I still fish there. I think this campground is a good resource for getting folks a great place to learn about fishing in the Beaverkill. To close campgrounds would mean folks have to stay at the more crowded places and ruin the experience of staying out doors. I would suggest getting rid of the computer registration company that has increased the cost of staying at the campgrounds. Computers are supposed to lower the cost of business. Just go back to filling out a paper form and lower the cost of camping, you will get more folks camping and having positive experiences in the outdoors. Thank you.Flag
