Name: Sandra Miller on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: this is absolutely outrageous that anyone who researched this would give it to anyone other than Diane Powers. This goes to show that when someone works hard and makes something of nothing there will always be a selfish entity out to take it away. This not only destroys one persons dream and dedication but displaces many employees. I can't believe our state government would do that to a hard working person who created 500 jobs. But than again I believe that the connection between Gray Davis and this Delware (buffalo,ny) company is $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$(to Davis) but again not to California. Stop scrathing each others back and give this back to the person who make it worth $$ by her hard work.......!!!!!!!Flag

Name: Lee Blackwell on Oct 22, 2003State: WACountry: USComments: I am a native San Diegan and, though I understand that California if offering itself to the highest bidders to bail itself out of its financial quagmire, I highly resent such an important part of the history of my home town being decimated due to state management under Governor Gray. Whenever visiting San Diego one of my stops is always the Bazaar del. Please reconsider your current lease agreement and allow a new lease with the Bazaar del. Surely you can reach an ageeable compromiseFlag

Name: Dr. Ray Brandes on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: I am a professional historian, undertook much of the research and archaeology for Old Town, and am a direct descendant of Jose Manuel Machado, who built the first six or seven homes in Old Town. This is a personal insult to the people of San Diego and the nature of the change is abhorrent. Ms. Powers took Old Town when no one including the state wanted it and she turned it into a realistic state historical park. The very nature of the bidding process, the other examples of the work of a company that hasn't the slightest clue about California's history is a sham. I wish you to examine the nature of the conract, and to restore the contract to the person who knows how to truly provide the atmosphere and business for California's people and visitors. To do otherwise will be a financial and very poor representation of what California's first town represented. Don'd embarrass us; don't let us down because what Ms. Powers did gave us a feeling of our rich past. We don't need a north Tia Juana which Delaware North will give us.Flag

Name: Eduardo Payan on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry:Comments: Bazaar Del Mundo is a landmark in itself in San Diego. A popular hangout for local- including shopping, dining and just a place to go. I love the Bazaar just as it is. I feel there was an injustice in the bidding process because noone from San Diego was on the panel. Please don't take the Bazaar from the people of San Diego.Flag

Name: Craig Fagan on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: I support the petition. It's unfair that this woman has spent her lifetime making the Bazaare Del Mundo what it is, only to have it taken away from her. TOTALLY UNFAIR.Flag

It is THE BEST LANDMARK in the city--the only truly unique site in the city. I hope California State will reverse its refusal to renew the lease.Flag

Name: Sylvia Moya on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: Dear Gov Arnold, I have been a loyal customer of Bazaar Del Mundo for many years. My kids have gone on field trips and have learned and appreciated the history of Mexico, San Diego & Calif. I think its a shame to take the Bazaar from the people of San Diego. I feel this is an attempt by Gray Davis to repay his special interest groups by giving this sweetheart deal to one of his biggest supporters. I voted to recall Gray Davis because of his bad decisions and I feel that he did this to continue to have control in Califorina at our expense.Flag

I have come to know some of the employees as good friends and it will be a shame to see them go. Please reconsider the decision to take Bazaar Del Mundo from us, the people of San Diego county.Flag

Name: Katherine Landis on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: The historical purists who were so in favor of this change may be surprised to find that the locals (who make up 50% of BDM business) do not want another attraction with a fake atmosphere and trained puppets doing storytelling in their aprons and bonnets and selling tacky souvenirs in a dimly lit room amidst a parched landscape with a couple cacti. Locals simply won't support this and they will certainly not make the kind of $$ BDM has for the State Parks.Flag

Name: Kevin Diamond on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: The Bazaar made Old Town California's most profitable state park, not the other way around. The state should better understand the situation instead of blindly taking the most money offered. Old Town tourism will greatly suffer without the Bazaar.Flag

Name: Naomi Neilson on Oct 22, 2003State: CACountry: USComments: Bazaar del Mundo is the heart of old town San Diego, it is what people think of when they think of old town SD, though many do not realize that all of their favorite things there are a part of BDM! The events and activities, along with the unique environment created by BDM, will not be duplicated by an out of state corporation interested primarily in profits. BDM is a cultural venue, an extraordinarily unique place unlike any other. I hope the state will reconsider, and return the lease to Bazaar del Mundo in the interest of the community.Flag
