I have discovered that, following an assurance that the Borough Council would not close or dispose of the Boscombe Centre for Community Arts without consultation with the residents and service users of this historic complex in Bournemouth UK, that Bournemouth Council have taken a decision to close the site at the end of this month (June 2007. This site was donated by the Shelley family (Percy Bysse Shelley - poet, Mary Shelley-authoress of 'Frankenstein' and descendants) for the provision of free education in perpetuity for the working classes of the area well over 120 years ago. It is used by disability groups, charitable bodies, further education specialists, fitness groups and local interest facilitators, and is the only community resource in this very needy area of an otherwise affluent town. To dispose of it without fulfilling their obligations and pledges to the electorate, the Council is displaying its' contempt for residents, and, following a group of us from the Area Forum (people's voice in the town) making a deposition to the Council and gaining assurances that absolutely no decision would be taken, this high disregard and ignorance of the feelings and concerns of us all deserves to be publicly dispirited. Please sign this e petition so that we can try and force a stay of execution for this much loved and appreciated facility thankyou.
